I have a few friends looking into an onroad indoor track in my area and I was wondering what size of track is typical. Also I know that Ozite is the carpet to use, but where is the best(cheapest) place to get it?

Also for those of you running an indoor onroad track how long does the Ozite last? Do you allow traction compounds? What is the maintance on the carpet like?

I'm pretty sure the carpet is ozite, and your only allowed to use TQ Orange.

Real Ozite is from CRC. Similar carpets are available from other sources, but there is a big difference in traction between the real stuff and "similar" carpets.

Rubber tires are harder on carpet. That seems to shorten the life. Some people feel certain traction compounds can hurt the glue or carpet itself, but I don't know enough to say what to watch out for.

The best way to lay the carpet is to glue it and have it done by professionals. I have seen tracks have problems when they try to do it themselves. Not that it can't be done by a track owner, but you really have to follow the correct installation methods. If you can't glue it , it can be taped down. It tends to strech more when taped.

robk - Yeah I raced micros on a imitation ozite carpet and it wasnt great.

Hobby world is not ozite carpet ..thats why it has grains and is inconsistent..it looks and feels like home depot indoor outdoor carpet. Stockton has about three seasons on their ozite and only has imperfections because of racers..

I think it is Ozite, could be wrong, cause I know for a fact they tried the cheap stuff first and than had to go to the good stuff,Ozite.

What I am really after is waht size of track would be good for an onroad track. Also how long could I expect the carpet to last.

Indoor onroad would have a big pull do to the cold winters and hot summers. Year round racing with out the mess of offroad. Dont get me wrong I love offroad but onroad would rule.

Road Domes make nice jumps.

And Every peice of the road rails has a sticker on it that says "Warning, this is not a barrier system".

Just something to think about.

Horrid, you chunk tires and jump them.

I highly recommend against them for carpet.
Some say for outdoor also. But they are great when you clean up.

I race carpet where they have those road domes. They are good but you can jump over them unless u stack it to look like this

where you can jump over. They break sometimes too if hit them hard. But on my opinion I kind of like them.
