Default Gt12

Ok I am looking to maybe try and start a new class at my local track next carpet season if I can get enough people interested. What's the rules for this class and the car to get. I am in the States. I want to build a car over the next few months

The current car to get is the Schumacher Atom CC edition. Get the new front end while you are at it and the alloy steering knuckles. Contact has also released a spec tire with green stripes. There is also a low center of gravity kit that some are using and prefer. I have the original atom, the Supastox GT and did have a Supastox, so I have been following/racing these for the last 3 years. Mardave and Zen also make very nice cars for GT12. And don't kid yourself, these things will almost keep up with a 13.5 12th scale speed wise. They are deceptively fast, but a nice easy drive.

The rule set comes straight from the BRCA website. BRCA rules are very clear and easy to understand.

Will any of the supatox bodies fit a crc chassis? Like the bodies when they become easier to get from my local HS.

Why not run ANY old 1/12 scale carpet car? Change the ride height and go to the rubber tires? These babies have been scienced out for years and handle great!!

Tim, just a little history of GT12 in the UK. When they first started, it was Mardave cars originally designed as oval cars in the UK, and descendants of a class called Bangers. They ran 26mm tires front and rear and ran them onroad with GT bodies. The chassis they were using was a full length front to rear with the pod over the top in the rear. So it grew from there and they kept the chassis rules intact. They were bullet proof and a lot slower than they are now. Then came the Supastox. When Schumacher put it out about 4 years ago, they thought they were making a more bulletproof version of a bullet proof car. And, they did, but, it was faster and handled a lot better. And then... the RC evolution of GT12 happened. Mardave has had 3 or 4 cars, Schumacher has had 4 cars, Zen has had 3 cars. At this point, GT12 is still one of their biggest classes, but is so much faster than envisioned. It was always intended to be a 12th scale LMP body feeder class. They have tried rubber tyres, but passed. They are now onto green stripe spec tires. Racers from all over Europe have adopted the class and run the BRCA rule set. So, that being said. It is now cheaper to build a new CRC CK25 than it is to build and option the GT12s. But, The GT12 will run damned near through a wall and keep going. As example, we had a lane failure, a 2 1/2 inch piece of PVC facing toward oncoming traffic. The car hit the open pipe at full wood and only broke a steering knuckle.

Now that you know the history and understand where it came from anyone can make an informed decision on GT12 or 12th with GT bodies. I'm about to grab a few bodies for GT12 and measure them for Bull Frog.

I have the Ferrari (I think it's a 958), A Porsche 911, and the Ascari V1 and V2 (wider).

And hell yes I would race this class on foam tires any time I could. Even tempted to go to the UK and run a big event some day.

Bangers on YouTube!

Okay I get it---completely different chassis-- I think it would have been better if they had kept the class a little SLOWER for more entry level. But it is what it is!! Thanks for the explanation!!

It should be slower. It should be entry level. I'm with you 100%.

A GT12 with a high turn motor on 1S would be a parent's best investment for a kid wanting to try RC. A cheap locked timing 25.5 would be a great beginner platform, easy on the wallet and durable. It might even be fun for experienced racers to do some coaching with. Hey kid, here's a car you can't destroy, all you have to do is keep up...

Not really. They are all about 3 or 4 mm too narrow in the rear. Even the PFM12. Now if you ran the GT 12 tires, they would have the correct backspacing and narrow the rear.

The PFM12 (PF) is what some have been running besides the vette (BG) and Liger Mas (DP). I wish someone would make the old MRP Camaro I have on the wall. Also talked with RJSpeed and he 's been selling small batches of bodies to a shop (old Bolink).
Looks like Mon-Tech has a nice new body for our GT class.

Ascari and Zen McClaren plonked on top of my 12th scale. JFT wheels would make it 2mm narrower and I'm running 2mm of front spacers too.
