Attempting to setup the spool axle. What size shims are used to correctly center the rear axle (tires).

I have quickly scanned and read through some of this thread,
curious how you guys like your CRC? Any complaints?
I am looking to get an F1 and race this class this year. I don't want to pay $350, $400 or more for a chassis. I like the price and it seems like a good kit.
I am looking at this CRC and the VBC fx18, which are both about mid $200 range and in my budget.

The Crc car simply works on carpet. There are a few option parts that are worth considering - getting a spool for black carpet would be a top concern. Still, there’s not a lot of extras needed. A couple parts like the ball studs for the side links and front steering arms and kingpins are good to have on hand.
At at the same time, if you are a driver who expects to assemble a car with zero effort and perfect parts fit, just realize it’s not an X-ray. Quality is very good, but a little extra care to make sure everything’s smooth and free will reap benefits. It’s also not a metric car excepting a few parts that interchange with Tamiya (wings, front end). Lots of 4-40 screws.

I am going to run on asphalt only, -would the CRC still be a good choice,
right now I am looking at the CRC and the VBC FX18 (both about the same price).

I'd pass on the CRC for asphalt. Its a great carpet car though.
Once you add the cost of wings and body to the CRC, the price is not excessively far off from the rest of the competition (except Xray).

By the way Dan, I purchased a car from you years ago, ...a TOP Sabre mini, -I still have that car and love it. I don't race it but its fun to just get a few laps in w/ every now and then. I have a nice cup racer body on it.

Yup, I still remember. I had the 4WD mini itch again and bought an Xpress mini. Moved out of Cali though.
I sold my CRC a long time ago. I'd take a hard look at the Roche. Its great value and very close to X-ray. I have no experience with the VBC but seen them pop up for $200 every once in a while (absolute steal).

Interesting, I've run my WTF1 16' successfully on prep asphalt and without tyres sauce! I'm not a great F1 driver, but I don't feel limited by the car. Even with 2 1s battery, the car is quite agile and fast.

Front end durability?
Has CRC solved this? Sounds like the kingpins and plastics are the issue. I run black carpet , tight twisty track with hard barriers. Need a tough front end to keep up with x-rays and F6.

Most of the front end durability issues are resolved by adding a steering stop. CRC just released an upgrade part for that.
