How to loosen a very tight grub screw??
G'day Guys,
I have a problem on my 415 where I need to remove 3 grub screws from the center shaft area so that I can replace spur gears but the grub screws are in there soooo tight that when I've tried to remove the grub screws, it either bends allen keys, breaks Hudy ProfiTool tips and bends Eagle Hex Driver tips.
Is there any solution anybody may have, perhaps with heat or something. I'm DESPERATE!!!!

have you taken the shaft out of the car and tried again with the allen keys?

1) drill out the bottom of the grub screw.
2) Pull the part off using a special puller
3) Hit the wrench with a hammer as you turn it.

Josh - Can't take the center shaft out of the car, I've taken the entire bulkheads out of the car.
Elvo.... I'm kinda reluctant to try that cause I don't want to damage the parts (as I have no spare gear holders, etc) and also the shaft has indents to hold the bits on, so unlikely to be able to pull it off without getting rid of the grub screw.
Really frustrating this.

are you trying to use a 1.5mm allen key? if so then stick a old, worm 1/16 allen key in there and it will fit tighter...
another thing yu can try is, put boiling water onto it, this should loosen it...saying that, only do it if there isn't any plastic parts near that could melt

Yes, been using 1.5mm hex driver. I do have some plastic around... but I'm gettin so frustrated with it all that I'd rather melt the plastic and get a new one from someone. We'l see what happens....
Any other suggestions??? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had this problem.

You might want to try using heat. If you have one of those small lighter torches, apply heat to the part that the screw is in. Although the grub screw will also get hot it might expand the part enough where it will allow you to remove the screw. No guarantees, but it might work. I have used heat to remove some stubborn screws/grub screws, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

you can also either get a wet piece of towel or paper towel stick that in the grub screw than use your 1.5mm allen driver to turn it, this will try and fill in the spce you have.

MIP/Thorpe Driver...if that don't get it out...you are pretty screwed

Try MIP Thorp Driver
if it strips with 1.5MM screw. there is inch size which is slightly bigger then 1.5mm use that to take it out. make sure you use the MIP thorp driver.
they are the best tool you can get for RC Hex screws

use 1/16th inch driver it works most of the time.

been there couple of times and yeah they sucked. super glue, solder, small torch just didn't do it. 1/16 inch driver might help in case of 1.5mm stripped screw. i had to tap the driver in lightly.
dude, on the other side of the bulkhead, the shaft is held by an e-clip - remove that and you can slide the right bulkhead out leaving with the spacers assembly and the spur bound to the left b/head for you to work on. it gives you some clearance and lesser item to ruin. good luck!
