Is it worth getting a 419 diff for my trf418? Or is there another manufacturer that makes one that would be better?
For Stock 13.5T or lower Yes !
For Modified No ! I switched back to 417/418 diff after destroying the internal gears for the second time during a race.
Never had this problem with the 417/418 diff even with the plastic gears.

Does the 418 come with the big bore shock as box stock ?
No !

The problem I have with my diff is its just not as smooth (418 diff). At least compared to my X-Ray. 1k oil in it feels like 3k in most other gear diffs.

I am thinking about removing two spider gears to see if that will help in smoothness. This was a trick that was done on my other car and it helped a lot (Awesomatix).

The 418 diff is not that bad. I use those along with the newer 419 diffs in my car. The 419 is a bit better.

I use both with plastic gears (metal ones are too heavy) and use shims behind the gears to prevent them rubbing against the case. I also use steel cross shafts. The plastic one is just asking for trouble.

If the diff feels stiff, you might have pinched the o-ring (or didn't lubricate it enough).

You need to shim the out drives and this takes a bit of patience such that you press the o-ring gently and there is no axial play in the outdrive. This means you need to find the right balance of shims on the outside vs inside.

Don't use the xray silicone o-rings as they are too tight and will basically make the diff feel like it has a much thicker oil. They are also too thick and will be pressed down too much hence introduce rubbing un the shim under the sun gears.

Another thing I forgot to mention, you need to sand the back of the gears (all of them) smooth. Use fine grade paper and finish with something like 1000.

Anyone put the 419 big bores on? If so, did it make much of a difference?

Nice to see that 418 is still being driven!
I love mine, smokem chassis, short damper stays, TB EVO 6 shocks in black and 2 x 419 diffs. In stock class it's absolute beast!

Weird to read that some of you had issues with 419 diffs.
I've been running my 419 in midified even since I bought it and not a singe issue with it.

Same with my 418, been using the 419 diffs for a while.

I have the Samix v2 conversion and love it. Anyone running the smokem low pro shock towers with the samix chassis? With what shocks and springs? Thanks.

I would like to try the Smokem short shock towers but they seem to be out of stock. If anyone has a set available for sale please let me know.

I will have some really low profile towers ready for the TRF418 in the next couple of days. They are for X-Ray shocks / 20mm springs.

The drawings have been sent so they should be available soon(ish).

Same as the TRF419 ones, they are not for profit, so the price should be similar etc.

I have not raced them but I have had some feedback from a Malaysian racer with a prototype set.
