They seem to be evenly matched with the exception that the Killshot seems to run alittle hotter than
The Thunderpower. At a recent race we were talking with a driver that was putting down hotlaps that
Were real fast. He was running the R1 Wurks 21.5 and he had no complaints at all.
Funny, I replaced the R1 21.5 in my USGT car this weekend with my Kill Shot (RPM stator) with 12.5mm torque rotor and lap times dropped 0.4 sec. Ran a 12 minute main in 100 degree heat and the motor was 160F (had an R1 fan but it stopped working sometime during the race). Didn't realize the main was going to be that long or I'd have reduced the timing and geared up 2 teeth. Be sure to use a fan and keep the timing in the 50 to 60 degree range (total End bell plus ESC). I was running 60 degrees yesterday, and with 55 degrees and a working fan, the temp would have been lower (~135 -145 after 12 minutes basd on past races).

I'm interested in what people feel is the current top 21.5t motor. For context its for a reasonable size outdoor track in a touring car.

Thoughts and experience welcome!

Cheers

If last years nationals are anything to go by, you would have to say R1 Wurks, followed by Trinity D4.

I'd like to see some numbers on the R1 vs D4 and the express modified D4's as I'm looking for a replacement myself and they are on my short list. Can't find much on 21.5's

I guess what would be useful would be knowing which motors are good on open tracks and which ones are best on tighter tracks with shorter straits.

Orca now. I've been converted. Ripper motor. But all 21.5s are decent. It's just how much effort and time tou put into gearing and finding that sweet spot.

A motor you guys should consider that hasn't been mentioned yet. Is the Team Scream Racing 21.5. We have had many great result with people using them on large tracks (150x75 or larger). Some in Australia and some in the States. These tests were with the standard stator stacks, now that all the short stack motors are roar approved it will only get better. I went to snow birds this year, with my TSR 17.5 in my touring car (the short stack, essentially the same motor anyone would receive if they bought one from their site, (tolerances being the only difference)). It was stupid fast the whole run, with minimal drop off. I was pulling some down the back straight, and out of a couple of corners. I ended up finishing in the D main for stock (the motor and batteries were fantastic, that part wasn't holding me back for sure, the driver of the thing was haha!) We also offer some of the best customer service, and gearing advice until your 100% happy. If you would like to know any specifics of the motor (such as resistance, rotor strengths, or how we build/tune our motors for EACH individual application, please feel free to message me, of if you have any other questions).

i believe the shop at rivo has 2 in stock, all be it there not cheap though.
unfortunatly any motor that comes from the states now is very pricey due to the exchange rate on the dollar

I'm liking the plug idea on the speed passion motors.
Makes it quick and easy to change between 21.5 and 13.5 and even mod between races if you only have 1 car.
Or mod and 10.5 in 1/12th
Especially if your like me and hates soldering and doesn't want to do it every time you change a motor.

The new style motor has plugs that you can solder direct or plug and play like the MMM and V3 style. See the lower left part of image.

Yes the convenience of the plugs on the Speed Passion motors has always been good. I often wonder why other manufacturers don't follow suit. (they do in 1/8th motors)
