Yeah, quite a bit less. Even with a man pile we'd be at ~60 in the main space. We were able to temporarily get the space next to us for MHIC which worked out okay aside from the unexpected lack of heat.
We have a nice track and spectacular lighting, but the space itself isn't really conducive to a big event without some overflow. I imagine we'll probably just continue to promote and try to build upon the success of our own race. But giving on-road a proper nationals is one of those RC bucket list things, you know? I'll mention it to the guys. I really hope Omaha puts in a bid. |
Also, maybe I'm being a bit of a princess, but I'm not sure I've got it in me to pit in a 3x2 space again for 5 days. :D

You wish it was 3x2! 3x1.5 is more like it. It made for good camaraderie!

Some reasons for hosting the 2014 Nats at 5280: 1. awesome track 2. best lighting anywhere (great for geezers) 3. cool crew that knows how to run a race 4. entertainment by Ficco I've said my piece  |

Ditto this... Id love to see the race @ 5280 next year....
Because we're a club, the financial success of MHIC is important to our longevity. If we were to host a nationals, a race that typically isn't financially successful for the host, we'd probably have to cancel MHIC and lose out on the event that helps keep us going. |

Thanks guys, we definitely appreciate the kind words, a lot of guys have worked really hard to make this track happen.

I think all of us love the idea of hosting a Nationals. It's certainly high on my list.

The pits would have to be configured like Horsham.
Seeing as it never snows in Chino Hills I think it's doable .... |
What about NorCal, I heard they're putting in a carpet track?
A few other possibilities? Hangar 30 MRH Thunder RC |

Ive talked to Dirla (Thunder RC) about bidding. He is on the fence right now. We have almost all the lights replaced and enough pits for about 75 people right now but will be expanding that in the fall to go over 100 people (These are 4 people on 4x8 tables plus some places for other tables to be setup. This is if we dont put pits on the off road track as well. The place will be getting a paint job as well in the carpet room. A new heating system is also possibly in the works but a lot of times here in March it may not be needed anyway.
His biggest concern is where we would put the tech crew at for the event. Im working on him so we will see if he wants to do this or not. The track is great. Just got to work on the facility itself some to bring it to a level for a National event. EA |

I really hope Omaha puts in a bid. I'm hoping Lincoln puts in for the paved nats. I'd actually get a car and race for that one if they'd get it. |

Omaha's bid is done. Going in once I get the sanction form signed.

FroBoy, would HobbyPlex get new carpet for nats? Are you guys still running on the non-HD stuff from your last nats? We had some from that batch and when we replaced it with HD, so many of our traction problems went away. Omaha is the only current track I can think of where pitting wouldn't be a problem. As I recall, they've got quite a bit of space. The last carpet nats at Horsham had to turn people away after like 120 bodies. Carpet nats has bounced back lately. |
Wherever they end up....
I'd like to see the Nats go to a strong Indoor or Outdoor host Region A good base of core racers that run standard ROAR TC, 12th & WGT classes will insure good numbers for the Big races |

Didn't they host it recently? And aren't they closed?

I just suggest it because its close to me :) In any case I think it would be a mistake to have it at a place that you had to turn drivers away because of space. |
