if its a low turn mod motor like a 11t then you will probley want to buy a lathe or get to know someone who has one!

i have been reading alot lately about people who want the speed of these hot modified motors but thier looking for long lasting brushes and doing everything they can to prolong the life of the comm before it needs to be cut, yes you could get that motor and get long lasting brushes and pull 10-15 runs out of it before a cut, but i wouldent do it i would never spend the money on a mod motor that i wasent going to cut or just skim at LEAST every 3 runs, you can cut it less often but you will notice a drop in speed about 5 runs in, i gaurentie that

That's a bit extreme isn't it? I thought you could change brushes 3 or 4 times before you had to cut the comm.

Normally it's the other way around. You NEVER put new brushes on a worn out comm. The brushes will NEVER seat properly. Your better off not using the new brushes. Now cutting the com and reusing the brushes 3-4 times is perfectly fine. I do it all the time with great results.

Cut the comm every 3 runs or so, replace brushes when they get too short, break them in at 2v with very low timing, 2 to 5 deg, 0 will cause excessive arcing. Brush life will be pretty short on carpet with foams, you might want to look into some of the new longwearing brushes. Not sure about D6 for an initial timing setting. I would start around 8-12 deg and go from there.
And as sushi boy said, never put new brushes on an old comm, this will cause a ton of brush bounce and will distort the comm even more.

Any mod motor, I pull out and inspect after every run. The only low turn mod motors I've ever run that didn't need a cut after every run are the V2 based motors. Sometimes you may be able to get a couple runs out of a set of brushes. I haven't run the Trinity based motors in a while and I'm not too sure how the P94 brushes wear, but any KR based motor I run gets cut and brushes every run. V2 based motors get cut every other run and brushes every 4th run. And no, you never put new brushes on a worn com.

The new silver brush requires less maintenance. I am cutting after a couple of runs and am putting about 10 runs on a set of brushes......
This is for 8x1, 9x1, and 10x1. I have not ran anything over a 10 or less than an 8 at this point.... The new big serration 4383 brush is awesome, but if you can swing the extra $$ the silver perform the same with less comm wear and last longer......
