I applaud the decision to and hope they do decide to stick with novak only motors. Its nice to see loyalty in this industry still does exist and Novak is being rewarded with its decision to roll the dice on this class when it was approached about making the 25.5.
We have different brand of speedos and bodies to choose from so you can still support your favorite brands in some capacity while running VTA (assuming they make a product that is VTA legal).
Opening up the motor rule to different brands is a whole can of worms that wont help anyone and end up ruining the class.
I have a used ballistic 25.5 that i purchased off this site from a gentleman in wyoming (or maybe Utah) that I have never met, and that is my only VTA motor. I feel confident that I can show up ANYWHERE in the country, any given night, run USTVA rules and not be out motored. I may lose because I was out driven, or because my setup was off that night....and I am totally ok with that. Working on those things makes us better racers.
But being beat only because i didnt want to spend 90$ on brand x's new 25.5 thats a tenth faster than the existing one is a tough pill to swallow. I run 17.5 as well to play the motor game, part of me does enjoy running other brand motors to compare them. But that is what other classes are for, not USVTA. USVTA has a formula that works, no need to change it to just another TC class with body rules and a spec tire.

no prob. The only thing I was wondering was with the whole "Boss" Edition, the fact you have better venting I would think it would allow you to run the motor alittle harder since it should run cooler, hence more speed than a regular ballistic.
As for costs, etc. one thing I have learned regardless of the type of spec racing is that guys always find ways to spend money on a performance boost lol.
Seems a big thing now is buying several stators (or was it rotors?) and weeding out the best ones like we people did with Titan motors in Spec slash. Seen a few ads up specifically because of that.
Speaking of which, what tool are people using to test for this?
All in all though, its a fun class for sure, love the bodies, and I am glad its going strong.

whats being said around the water cooler was simple as this..." hey guys have you heard about that slow boring non-real racing class of older chassis and never going to reach anywhere but some lonely track up north and a hillbilly dump down south"..."yeah Ive seen 2-4 ppl talking about it"...well these yahooos want a spec motor for the class"...."well what they want?"...."some lower turn motor like 25.5, slower than the current 21.5, they say they are trying to make the cars very similar to the original formula of 27t and 4 cell"..."those guys must be crazy, it will never sale"..."I told them all we do is concentrate on "REAL" racing classes, not some backwoods club stuff"....."what did everybody else say?"..."same thing, we are not wasting time or effort and take a chance on those hillbillies wanting to go slow"...." well did anybody say anything different?"...."believe it or not, some company thought it was worth doing, bet they lost their Azz on that one...Hahahahaha"...."glad we didn't get into it"..."good thing is , if it ever does get going, we can just jump on the bandwagon".....

Here's some food for thought. With the recent surge in 25.5T offerings from electric motor manufacturers (Reedy, Tekin, Viper, Trinity, Speed Passion, etc.) you have to ask "why now?". Where were these guys in 2009-2010 when the only company who considered USVTA a practical class was Novak Electronics?

and the even funnier part is that mentality/opinion comes from racers too 
not just the motor makers

Does anybody know what the results were from evaluating the Tekin Gen2 RS Spec Edition ESC for USVTA purposes? I thought I read that it was being looked at in early-to-mid October. Was a decision made one way or the other?

Keep it at 1 motor mfg it makes it easier. I basically built a motor out of a stator and other guys spare motor parts.....it was good enough to win the 2013 USVTA Scale Nats.
Is Tekin needed??? Not really the class looks to be doing just fine but if they make an ESC that follows the rules Rob has said he would welcome it with open arms. Have they done that with their new Spec ESC? If so I cant wait to see Rob test it out I think the white ESC looks cool and the data logging is very cool.

Never really understood the data logging stuff. What exactly is the benefit? I would switch if approved, not because the esc would be faster but I love the trackside programing of drag brake and curves. I hate counting flashing lights!

I'd like to see a Tekin esc also, competition always makes for better products
