motors and ESCs are the hardest thing to tech without holding the whole event, or taking too much time of actually teching everyone. i say just hold ESCs and motor adjustments open and let everyone race to the best of their abilities with 13.5, 17.5, or w/e is best suited to your track.

I enjoy racing, biggest challenge for me in non boosted class is staying awake long enough to finish a race while the cars slowly bimble around.

Running a 3.5T blinky would get the heart rate up!
Speed and lap times has nothing to do with the decision to run dynamic timing or a blinky ESC, IMO
The decision is about using or not using the technology, teching ESCs at big events or not teching, cost of buying one motor and having it last for year+ or buy the latest motor every month, motor temps & motor life and the challenge of tunning seting up the ESC which has become so easy with reference setups readily available.
I have run both blinky and dynamic timing on 3 different tracks and with suitably selected motor the performance was very similar with each combination, the biggest difference is you can tune out motor differences which is not possible with blinky ESC.

Such a great post...timing classes are dead here locally as well. I think adjusting speed with motor is a better approach as well.
