It is advisable to cool batteries while charging them? I'm running stock, 3300 6 cell packs at 6 amps. Should they be kept cool while charging with a small fan underneath or should they just be kept off the surface with a small wire rack so normal room temp can circulate around the pack?

Just wondering. I use the Novak tray for conditinig the cells. and dump them at 20 amps before traying them.

I think theres many ways to do what you want with your packs. I for one just charge them up and let them cool down and run them or re-peak them.

Others might tell you to have a fan on them while charging.

i cool them when i charge them cos if i dont then i cant even pick them up there just to hot and im only charging at 3 amps

Whats your Cut off theshold Pink Pac man? Too hot to touch at 3 amps is crazy.

I charge mine at 6 amps with .5mv cut off and they are warm.

i dont know the cutoff its a shity $60 charger and the cutoff is set at sumthing...........ill chek the instrutions.....back in 5

ya shouldnt get that hot, i charge at 6amp at 35mv and its warm/hot but i can still hold them.

I have an old 12v 80mm PC Power Supply fan that I use to keep air cirulating over the cells when charging and re-peaking them, makes quite a large difference if you ask me, they are noticably cooler when I have used the fans than when I havent used the fans...

I use an old 1700mAh NICD to power them, it lasts 2 meetings before it needs to be topped up again. I'll be modifying my fan setup to run from my 12v power supply soon, get a little more power from the fan setups.

Might even get some of the LED light 120mm fans for my new setup

Im planning how to temporarily attach heatsinks to the side of the cells when they're being charged, so long as the heatsink is only touching each individual battery bar there shouldnt be any problem with shorting out Still thinking about that idea, but hopefully it will drag the heat out of the cells..

it says it has a reliable battery full detection and charge termination using voltage monitor -^v termination [negative delta peak] additional safty timer and optional temp sensing cut-off
-automatic pulsed trickle charge after termination
-protected againt short circut/reverse polarity/and overload
-presice charge current range 100ma-4000ma

the batts perform flawlesly and after i race they seem cooler than they were when i charged them

This is a VERY bad thing to do to your packs, The GP's are supposed to be hot before you run them. If you have a fan on them the outside will be cool while the insides cook. Every battery matcher that I've talked to said this is a bad idea.

There you go, so you shouldnt use the fan. lol And thats the reason why i do not use the fan.

I was under the assumption that use a fan while charging can cause flase peaking . I was also told that you want ya batteries to be worm ( not hot ) this allowes for a better charge. So on that note i charge my battereis and then put a fan on them . When I discharge I always have a fan on them If ya batteries are hot at a 3 amp charge ya peak has got to be way too high, anyway thats just my opinion
