Yet another Charger Post
hey, I have typed in searches to make my decision easier, but i haven't found much help. Anyway, im trying to buy a charger for fairly cheap, and am looking at the integy line of chargers. The 16x5 i see for $99, and it looks good, but then i see they have the16x5v6 with dc and the 16x7v6 with the ac/dc for $189. What do you guys suggest i go for, as im trying to save money, i would rather go with the 16x5, but are there absolutely needed features on the latter two that would make a better choice?? Sorry for rambling and thanks

If you can afford it, I recommend the 16X5 v6 charger in DC only configuration. It's one of Integy's very best. Failing that, the 16X5 is very nice and again as a DC only charger.
The 16X7 had issues with unreliability when it was initially released and I've never heard too much good news about it. It is an AC/DC charger so that's nice. The newest model, 16X7 v6 may be alright but I've never seen one so cannot offer much.
I use the 16X9 charger which is AC/DC and has been flawless for me for two years or more now. It has a pair of output jacks on the back and with its built-in 14 amp power upply I am able to connect a second small DC charger to use to keep my transmitter peaked all the time. I love mine and even had Tres Leonard make me a custom face plate.

What are the main differences in the 16x5 and 16x5 v6? i know v6 has profiles, optional trickle, and 1-10 cells rather than 4-8, but is that all necessary for a causual racer that wants to step up from his dynamite prophet?? Thanks

Basically what im trying to say is will the original 16x5 be able to handle battery maintenance for matched packs and fairly high end equipment on a fairly causual basis? I mean for now im pretty busy, but when i do race i want my driving skills to be the deciding factor in how i do, not my charger.
btw, the 16x9 looks sweet!!

The 16X5 v6 does have a few more features and it charge down to one cell, but the reality of sedan and 12th scale racing means you'll only ever need to charge 4 and 6-cell battery packs. The standard 16X5BL charger should be just fine for several years. Look for a nice compact 10 to 15 amp power supply and you'll be set.

You can get the Integy 16x5v6 charger for $140, but you have to pay shipping from HK.
Anyways, I have the 16x5v6 and I love it. I'm not sure what all the features of the 16x5 are, but I think that the v6 has these additional functions:blue backlight, IR measurement during charging, discharging & cycling, 10 programmable memory slots, data recall on all battery vital information, Torpedo type built-in boosting charge, partial charge is adjustable from 10% to 50%, new Linear VESC fuzzy logic charge, On/off trickle with automatic trickle rate, 6 user selectable ring tones, On/off auto repeak, and 1 to 60 minutes repeak delay time.

I would buy from the second link, they have cheaper shipping and no extra fees.

Thanks for the help. When i get a power source, will a car battery work?? Also, is the gel cell on my starter box another possible source?? Thanks
