I found that swearing lots helped. It fit better after I threw it across the room. I stretched that last one a little with a pair of pliers and then used the back of a screw driver.

The stock spur is 48pitch as "over gear" had answered.
Your FDR (Final Drive Ratio) should be 4:1 if running a 17.5 Spec motor.
For the 80teeth 48pitch spur you can use a 38teeth 48pitch pinion gear, however, I doubt if the adjustment slots of the motor mount could accommodate the motor with the 38T pinion. That being the case, you might want to change the spur to 76teeth 48pitch and use a pinion of 36teeth to have a perfect gearing of 4:1. If the 76teeth spur is not available you can opt for the 75teeth 48pitch and still pair it with a 36T pinion gear.

Could one go 64p? i cant find 48p that has the predrilled holes. and you need the holes to be able to screw in the motor.

Im having issues finding a pinion spur combo too w/out upgrading the motor mount.
Could one go 64p? i cant find 48p that has the predrilled holes. and you need the holes to be able to screw in the motor.
I found these two. could I use them?
and would the work fine w/out modifying or buying different part?

3Racing also has the 64p spurs with the "pre-drilled" holes:

The Zero "S" can only accept the maximum size of 80T 48p (or 106T 64p) spur gear... due to the rear gear diff housing.
"Precision Racing" have their spur gear with outer holes also... but I am not sure if it is compatible with the Zero's spur gear holder. Don't bother with the "XRay" spur gears... it will not fit.

Anyone had problems with the stock servo saver?
I tried my Zero S for the first time today and had problems tracking straight when I accelerated hard. The car would start straight then veer in both directions as i struggled to keep it going straight. I run 11.5T mildly boosted.
I suspect it's the servo saver that's the problem. It's probably flexing too much. The plastic is just not rigid enough.
I've just changed to a Tamiya high torque servo saver, will see if that solves the problem. If not it could be a servo issue.

Just an update on my problem.

The attached photo has 6 inner holes. The Zero S spur gear holder requires 4 holes, you should at least look for a spur gear with 8 inner holes. The Xenon gears will work also.
