Thunder R/C is my "home" track. We run a class of USGT cars there every race. Our "track" rule on tires is Jaco Blues or HPI X Patterns. We enjoy good grip there so a personal driving style dictates as to which tire is faster. I run the Jacos, but I'm not the fast guys. The H Patterns have more of that beautiful tire squeeling effect in the corners tho.

Awesome! Obviously I didn't search through the thread and assumed the first post with the class rules was up to date. Thanks!

Just in case you didn't know the latest and greatest rules are here:

http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html

Scroll through the USVTA rules and the USGT rules are at the bottom.

Some bodies are sold with light buckets, but they're usually drifter style bodies. Nothing from HPI, for example, comes with light buckets that I'm aware of. If you check various drifter retailer websites or maybe TQ RC Racing, you can find some that may work with other bodies.

Lots of HPI bodies come with light buckets. It'll say on the HPI website "includes light buckets". But, I'll agree that it's the more modern/import bodies that usually come with light buckets.

Depending on the body style you might be able to use LED mounts like these:

The more "aero" the body is the less likely those will work well though.

Another option is to use some of the scrap lexan from the shell to make brackets and shoe goo them inside the body with the above led mounts pointed in the proper direction.

We have another guy at our track testing USGT for the first time this wed with a TC3. Trying to grow in the right directions, that is USVTA and USGT. It's working good so far.

In case anyone was intersted what the the 2002 Camaro SS body looked like (HPI #7460) here is mine:

Finally got the paint done on the SS. Its not my best work, but I quit trying to get perfect paint jobs on race bodies a long time ago, since they just get ruined. This is the closest I could get to mystic teal metallic. Next time I will probably go for a sunset orange metallic, as the darker colors arent as visible on the ozite carpet we run on. Unfortunately, the stock style spoiler will more than likely get replaced with a high rise clear one like what is on the C5 due to performance. It really helps with downforce in the rear. I'll have to see how it does on the track tomorrow with the current spoiler.

HAD to do a Berger panel!

Yes, the T-Tops are clear. I thought it was awesome they left the lines for them. The black bar across the top was done with paint.

Nice Camaro Captain! I have 2 of those bodies downstairs for 8 yrs now that need paint someday. I always wanted to paint one like my 4th gen and take it to car shows in the summer to drive around. Never found anyone who makes the 35th Anniversary stripes in 10th scale though to match.

Cool Berger panel, should be flat black though. ;) I wanted to paint the other body like my father's '02 Berger Hot Rod Magazine Camaro so he could display it at shows, never got around to it though. Someday maybe. :)

I was disappointed when HPI released a WS6 but no Camaro originally but since it was an F-body too I decided to paint one up. That was my first and only attempt at flames and it didn't turn out too bad. Never ran the body, just for display so far. With the USGT class now at our track I might have to dust it off and race it sometime.

The Captain 02-15-2013 07:34 PM

Yeah I decided against the flat black since I will be racing this body. I, have a TA body I need to paint next. I've been an fbody enthusiast for a long time. Wish there was a body with the 93-97 front end!

My last fbody, 93 Z28

love this class

RK, sweet gunmetal gray SS! I'm going to have to paint up one of my SS bodies for this class after seeing that. What wing is that?

Captain, nice LT1! They have great low end torque, I have a Corvette 350HP version with roller rockers in my MasterCraft boat that jumps when you hit the throttle. ;) Perfect powerband for a skiboat.

Nice Whistler mod on the USGT car, just need to find some extra decals and make some clear corners (turn signal lights) for it. I have those on my 4th Gen too. ;)

Couple pics of my black SS and dad's pewter Phase llX Berger HotRod Magazine edition. I can't wait for summer to get here again! BRRRRAAAAAAPP! :tire:

im pretty sure it came with the HPI body 1 stock one high down force ...but its been awhile

USGT Porsche Photos

Hey guys, like I said before I love to see photos of your cars so I will contribute with some photos of my Porsche 911.
It sits on a Tamiya 417x chassis powered by a Fantom ION 21.5 (D3.5) motor.
It seems to handle much better than the BMW M3 I posted photos of earlier.

The colors are a little washed out from the Florescent lighting at the track as the yellow is much more vibrant in person.
The yellow color is more like the indoor photos show.

I just added blue LED headlights and red taillights like on my VTA Javelin but have not taken photos yet. :)

Looks good! Really like the wheels.

IndyHobbies.com 02-19-2013 01:10 PM

Have any of you used the HPI Vintage tires/wheels for your USGT car? Legally, I can use the 26mm's all around and that would look good with the body I'm planning on running.

I know that in VTA, the HPI treaded Vintage tires have got great grip. I assume the same is true when using them all around.

Any of you tried this? Are the X-Patterns a faster tire or better tire for some reason enough that there's a noticeable difference?
