Belted Pro-Comp X-Patterns are good they can be a little too grippy at times I like the D-comp ones better. I havent ran the Advan's in a long time but last I remember they were really close to the Pro-Comp X-Patterns....dont forget that the Advans are a 24mm tire and the X-patterns are 26mm.

Thanks for the detailed info Kevin. I may try the Pro-Comp X-patterns as my car is set up with a bit of a push anyways.

We've been running the belted X's at our track since we started USGT (about the time USVTA switched to 25.5). Our experience is they are best the first few runs then fall off slightly. After that they stay quite consistent until they are pretty much totally worn out. We experimented with some cheaper options but they never seemed to be as consistent through the life of the tire so we went back to the belted x's exclusively.
Thank you too padailey. Excellent feedback. I just noticed the change to the rules, so I'm still trying to work out what to try first.

I've also heard some grumblings about the different feel of the Solaris tires from one pack to the other..... X-patterns may not be the greatest, but they have been consistant for me, set after set.

New body for the winter season. Hope to test it out in the next week or two.

Looks great Jon, I'll try not to get any of my paint on it, can't promise anything but I'll try.

I'm going to put my first USGT car together. I was looking at HPI web site for a pre painted body. I like the HPI 7706 ( pre painted NSX). In the picture on their web site it shows a hole in the window for a nitro car. Is there any prepainted bodies avail that i'm missing ?

Pre-painted body

HPI #7265 Mazda RX-7 190mm works great in USGT

You should be fine I normally only put in about 19-2400mah after 6 minutes....with 8 min I normally put back 27-3000mah.

So 5000Mah good....I think anything over 4000 is good!

USGT VS USVTA lap times ?

A couple of us ran our cars tonight for the first time. We were in USGT trim , except with the VTA camaro bodies (our old practice bodies).

we have work to do, gut i was surprised how well the x patterns worked. I was also surprised the 21.5 wasn't that much faster than the 25.5, unless were way off on set up.

For those of you who run both USVTA and USGT what's an normal lap time difference ?

Also can you guys who run both cars at the same track tell me what FDR you run in each class so we have a starting point there.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Mike

Our combined class has both styles running a 25.5, however, I've found that with clean driving on a medium-to-tight track, there's not much difference between the 21.5 and 25.5. Right now, in USGT trim, with a 25.5, I'm at a 3.28 FDR. We have a fairly large-sized carpet track, so this may be a taller gear than most tracks. This gearing is low, so corner speed is a must, but it's fast. ;)

And yes the X patterns work pretty darn well for what they are. They do seem to wear quicker than the VTA tires, so watch out for that.

Change to a USGT body you will see the times change they are usually alot lighter then the VTA bodies from what I have seen.

Yeah X patterns are not that far off normal sedan tires as far as lap times....cost and life span is a different story.

Most times for us at my track the Fastest USGT lap is about .5 faster then the fastest VTA lap time. But this would also depend on track size a smaller track this gap would be less. Like our current lay out I think hot lap in VTA is 10.0 and USGT is 9.5. Most times the FDR's from what I have seen change depending on driver and motor...most VTA is around 3.5 and most USGT is around 3.8 but again this isnt always the same some guys run higher or lower depending on what their motor has.

At the Hobbyplex in Omaha, a big indoor carpet track, my USGT is about 7% faster than my VTA. The USGT has an FDR of 3.85, with a Novak SS set to about 45 degrees advance. The VTA has an FDR of 5.06, with a Novak Ballistic set to 45 degrees advance. The Hobbyplex restricts the VTA FDR to 5.0.

That's not much of a difference in lap times considering the huge difference in power/weight ratio. As usual, lateral g's are the most important thing.

See below the results from our New Year's Day race at The Track @ Harbor Hobby. Fast lap in USGT is about .6 faster than fast lap in USVTA.

Mike

We actually saw a much larger difference in lap times between VTA and USGT. Track is pretty fast, indoor high bite carpet. USVTA best time is a 10.9, with an average top 5 driver running 11.3 or so. Top USGT time is a 10.1, with averages 10.4 or so, again for the faster guys. 17.5 TC Blinky runs high 9's average with a 9.2 best (best I have seen was 9.5, but I am told the 9.2 happened).

Most VTA running 3.8 to 4.1, USGT running more in the 3.0 to 3.4 range, and 17.5 TC varies a lot on motor, but 3.8 to 4.5.

Oddly, we have actually found 21.5 powered cars to be closer to 17.5 TC then to VTA in overall laps and times, but seems to be a nice step in between both.
