If it helps the top stub axle is a direct fit, and has 2 sets of pin holes

stitchy 12-28-2010 05:10 PM

these axles?

So not only is the kit $460ish, but now we will need to cough up more money for additional items no matter how small (for ex- 40w shock oil, 3 hole pistons, springs, and they don't even include cheap allen wrenches)

Yeah,

I come from an xray t2 009 and to tell you the truth, the instructions and parts quality are inferior for the tcx. The setup details are nothing. Items like no instuctions for setting shock rebound and even measuring droop from two different points on the hubs can mislead people. I do run a ve8 and this is why I switched touring cars. Next season I may be back to xray.

Dunno if I could agree since I haven't put the car on the track yet. But the differences I've noted so far are:

Pro setup vs standard
1) Shock piston - pros seem to use the slightly thinner 1.1mm thickness piston with 3 holes vs 1.2 mm x 2 holes
2) Shock oil - 40 wt vs 30 wt
3) Droop - 8.5 mm vs 6 mm
4) Front shock mount - #3 vs #5 position
5) Rear shock mount - #3 vs #6 position
6) Front toe block - 1.5/2.0 vs 2.5 degrees
7) Front drivetrain purple spacers - 1 mm vs 1.5 mm
8) Front hinge pin spacers - various vs .75mm/2mm
9) Rear hinge pin spacers - various vs .75mm/2mm
10) Rear diff - gear diff vs ball diff
11) Front springs - pink vs gold

So from above, at minimum we'd need to additionally buy 1, 2, 6, 10 and 11... Seems like quite a bit of changes to me!

I'm just saying that for the $$$ spent, I think they should have at least included the damn pink springs, 3 hole pistons, additional purple spacers, 40 wt shock oil and front toe blocks.

I'm surprised that the kit came with double sided sticky tape!

That droop difference is really not much. The setup sheet measures droop from the center of the arm, whereas the instruction manual measures from the bottom of the arm. It's about 3mm from what I can see. So, 9mm or 6mm is the same depending on where you measure from.

set ups develop over time, you cant expect a car to come with everything you need for a particular set up......

nearly all the guys in europe have gone back to a ball diff.

springs, thats completely track vaiable, a non issue

same with the shock oil, a non issue.

the kit set up is designed to work reasonably well at a large amount of tracks and surfaces. not just specific for carpet or tarmac.

the only thing i would say "should" come with the kit, is 1.1x3 pistons.

What are those two pieces mounted to the rear shock tower in the last two pics? Car looks nice. I need of that CF tape to put on my servo, looks good.

The top purple rails are called "body stiffners". Most people use them when they run lighter/thinner bodies. The other two black posts help prevent body tucks.

Anybody found the stock wishbones to be brittle? I broke one front and two rears last night. The front was totally my fault, but the rears were a light brush on a track marker and they broke at the inner hinge pin holes.
Is there a more flexible alternative avaliable?

If by wishbone you mean suspension arms, then go with the Cyclone/Pro 4 carbon graphite:

The part# is HPI73506

In some cases, you might have to tweak your setup a bit when using these arms.

There isnt alot of material for the hingepin to go through i agree, so especially in a light brush (i find these the worst crashes) leading to a sudden yank on the suspension from a wheel catching the corner, they dont have much chance.

As said above, if your going though them, then best bet is to try the PRO 4/Orginal Cyclone wishbones, they are alot beefier allround then the TC/TCX ones. Though i guess they change the geometry?

San already explained what both are:blush: The Body posts are Corally parts:nod:

For anyone else interested the Carbon steering brace is made by Smokem Racing. http://www.smokem-racing.com/SB.html
