Sorry to hear that. Really wanted to show you my 12L4 car *before* the California Carpet Championships this coming weekend.

Just got all this IRS stuff to take advantage of everything I know.

Will test on Wednesday night at Stockton.

Especially, a 12L4 with the wiring routed looooow.

tc3stocker 03-07-2005 10:21 PM

all of them, please, unless you don't want to

You should do a picture trail for all your cars. If you are interested send me all the pictures and I will make it.

Most of the cars worth viewing have already been posted. Cars from my Museum are mostly older spec cars. I'll post new builds as they are completed, if you like.

I don't know what a picture trail is, but if you want to do one, I'll send you photos. PM me or whatever.

Thanks for your interest, guys. Since I'm not a fast driver, I get my jollies from building, so it's fun to share how I put them together.

Bill-
I'm actually working on my first 12L4. I'll post pictures when it's done (with the the looww wiring).

JRX-S Bill is correct. There are many things that can make a 12th scale car feel tweaked. First you need to make sure that your tires are the same diameter from side to side. Also it would be a good thing to check ride height at this point too. Second, you need to make sure that your car is in a race mode, meaning the batteries and all race equipment that should be in the car is in the car.

In a 12 th scale car, you should feel even more if there is a tweak in the car. Being that it is small, it's less stabile in my opinion. I hope this helps....

Also...make sure the Diff isn't too loose, as an unloading Diff will send the car to the left on acceleration.

Speaking of diffs again, another thing I learned from the 12th scale gurus at the track is to add endplay on the diffs. I laterally tighted the diffs too much by slamming the hubs to the axle plates too close. I never lasted the whole race. I'm running new batts btw.

primusblowsgoat 03-08-2005 06:42 AM

so you wanna leave a lil play when you put the clamp on?

also how loose is too loose?
cause i certainly noticed my car pulling left when i nail it, but if i dont just hammer it, im fine

i only tighten the thing enough to where when i grab the tires i cant turn the spur

Yes, but mine is only a few thousandths of play. Some others have several thousandths; but, that seems excessive to me.

Not sure if you are asking about endplay or the diff here. Think I answered the endplay above and diff below.

Exactly. I have recently installed 1/8" IRS ceramic balls in the spur and a Slapmaster bearing outside the right hub to make my diff really smooth.

Im picking up a second hand L3 to try some 12th scale, do most of the L4 parts carry over as spares for the kit. Or are spares going to be a problem?

Hyperform Racing 03-08-2005 11:17 AM

they will work on the 12l3. spares will not be a problem

With exception of the diff ring. The L4 uses big ring diff and L3 small.

The only other difference. beside the axle, between the cars is the upper front a-arm mounting blocks and the chassis.

take care

Thanks, what am i likely to break, my sedan driving i would say is fairly good, i can go 5 minutes without hitting things anyway ;)
Im going to jump in at the deep end, no wimping out, proper 4 cell modified. :D Now to get some more promatch cells and a nice br00d modified ordered. What sort of winds are you looking at to last the 8 mins on a small/medium track. 10-12 turns?
