You need 5 for 6 Volts

Look Here http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showth...threadid=45399 for what you need.

Does anyone run the new TRC Granite Rears? Is it worth getting the track to order a pair to try, or are they just a gimmick?

I run on meduim bite, dirty carpet. Its quite smooth, though.

5 cells, Promatch doesn't have them right now but they will soon

reciever pack

it appears that others have pretty much answered this but: I use a 5 cell 1/3aaa reciever pack (sanyos). I bought it as a flat pack from Pro-Match and re-configured it into a hump pack for the installation I wanted. It lasts about a heat and a half (8 min) so I charge between heats or install another pack. The Sanyos are nicads and are only 50 mAh, I looked at the batteries available at www.batteriesamerica.com that Mo suggested and indeed there are 150 mAh nimh batteries available! According to thier spec charts the nimh cells are a little smaller but slightly heavier than the nicads. Needless to say, I ordered a set on the spot.
As far as the extra run time, I've found that the car will get very sluggish (motor and steering) at about 7:30 to 7:40; with the reciever pack I have good punch to the end.
I'd be interested to see how other people set thier reciever packs up. Here's mine:

While on the subject of batteries.....(sub-"C" size)

At what amp rate do you charge a 4 cell nimh pack? My Novak charger has a setting for four cells and six cells. I charge my six cell packs at 5 amps. Do I need to reduce the amperage with less cells? Or does it remain the same?

odpurple 04-10-2003 10:15 PM

charge rates

Charge rates stay the same regardless of the number of cells. Most of the stuff I've read says 4 to 5 amps. I charge at 4 amps because it is supposed to give better run time. But then there (as usual) are lots of conflicting views on charging. All the manufacturers say not to let nimh cells get hot, then the local dealer says "Oh, no...they like to get hot" ...maybe it just helps sales...

charge rates

when you consider that the best voltage/runtime producing life span of batteries are supossed to be around 40-50 cycles (I don't recall where I saw that) does it really matter if you get the cells nice and toasty?

Charging

Wow did you open a can of worms!!

Everybody seems to diagree. I wish we had 2400s !!

Nimh 3300s. What I do is follow the promatch method. Go to their website and read it.

Charge at 5 amps, more for more punch (6) or less for more run time (4). When done racing leave them alone as long as you are sure there is at least 10% charge left in them.

The day before you race discharge to .9 Volts per cell. Leave them overnight. Charge them just before you race at the rates above. It is best to charge to 120 F. Changing delta peak will change the peak temp. I find .004 volts PER CELL or 16 for a 4 cell pack is good. More will make a warmer pack and less cooler. It depends on the situation, if the pack has been run once already that day and has 1/2 a charge in it, I use a higher delta peak to make the cells warm. If it is 95 in the shade, I would use a delta of 3 mv.

NO one agrees on traying the batteries. It seems to do them no good and could hurt run time. Promatch used to say tray them every time for no longer than 20 minutes just before charging the packs. Now they say once every 6 cycles or so. SMC used to say NEVER tray 3300s, I just read "Racers should try it".

.004 volts = 4 Milivolts or 4 Mv.

I have found that running the GP3300s totally flat seems to hurt them quite a bit in the run time department.

Nimh RUN BETTER WARM. There is no doubt about it. Just try a cool pack and a warm pack then a pack you can barely hang onto. You will see the warmest pack performs best. I don't think they will last as long, but who the heck knows.

My next batch of batteries I am going to treat each of 3 packs different and find out for my self which method works best.

I hope I answered your question.
This is a topic near and dear to me.

From my experience NiMH cells have less IR when they are hot vs. cool because the energy flows better when they're warm...don't ask me why, someone told me.

RC Paperboy 04-13-2003 10:27 AM

These little reveiver packs, how much do they weigh? Running a 19T or stock motor, will there be an increase in punch? I find the batteries get a little sluggish around the 6 min mark, will a rec. pack help with this? Im already overweight, so its not like I would be replacing lead with it.

MattW 04-13-2003 02:47 PM

You're looking at about 20g for the cells, then what ever weight for connections and lead/switch.

RC Paperboy 04-13-2003 04:07 PM

So how does the connection work? You plug in the pack to the BEC slot? Or do you need a second switch inline with the pack?

IMPACTPLAYR 04-13-2003 06:11 PM

WOW!! that must be one heavy paint job....LOL

How to pass

I have a somewhat vague and probably naive question... how does one pass when racing 1/12th scales? I am sure this occurs at all levels, but for me, it shows up more often with these lil 4cell stockers (probably cause everyone is very close to the same speed) The problem is if I am 0.1 or 0.2 seconds per lap faster than the guy ahead of me, how do I get around him? There is not enough hp to go around him on the outside, and as long as he holds his line, there is most likely no room on the inside. What do you people do in this situtation? I know there is no "correct" answer, I am just looking for opinions because right now I just sit back and wait for the guy in front to make a mistake... all the while the rest of the pack is catching up.
