Darkside: How do you change the batteries on the MX2?
I like that someone tries different ideas on their cars. Your 1/10 scale oval car with the upright rear shocks and off-set steering servo is very interesting.

You would unscrew the two screws on the top of the battery hold down. It will then slide out of the rear and the battery comes right out. Although it doesn't look it, it is quite easy.

Send a driver to the Grand Finale race at the Gate April 7-9th!! SOme of the fastest 12th scale drivers in the country will be there and it will be a great showcase for your car. Even though its just a "fun" race, the competition wil be awesome!!

I don't know if that race is going to be possible. I like your thinking though

Body ?: is the Speed8 still a good body to race with or has the Speed12 taken that moniker among the closed cockpit bodies in 12th scale?

THE DARKSIDE 03-15-2006 07:22 AM

Protoform Speed 12B is now the body of choice

M2_Driver 03-15-2006 07:41 AM

Yeah Darkside send a guy to the "Gate" for the finale! ;)

Everyone, that is a picture of my Mx2 in the pictures. I was using some older electronics to test. The offset antenna may look odd but it works fine and makes the car stand out amongst the others.

We originally thought we were going to have to use some other than standard set ups but my car was set up like most link cars. The machining on the chassis is gorgeous, and the silver is way cooler than your standard black. Darkside makes his own pod pieces, they are also perfect!! Maybe this idea didnt work a few years ago but it seems to work fine now.

STAY TUNED! :deathstar

YRX-12 chassis replacement

AE 12L4, CRC T-fource, DP Quad-12 main chassis plates will work with the rest of your Yok parts. some of the other t-bar chassis have different hole patterns for the cross brace, etc.

other than that, you may want to check with DPowell. he makes his own chassis plus variations of others manufactures upon special request which he doesn't show on his site.

Thanks. I was told that AE has a 12L3 chassis made for 4 cells with the same layout as the YRX-12. How does it compared to the 12L4 and the YRX-12?

? for 12th scale Gurus

I have a question for all the 12th scale gurus. The question is how do you get rear traction on a outdoor asphlat track that has not been run on in a months time. The track i race at has not been raced on for almost over a month and the dust has settled on it real good. the only time it gets cleaned is on race days. I have put the the black springs from Asc. and whites on the rear. It is real loose coming out of the corners or turns, and pushes in the sweeper. I was just curious how you all would go about getting traction with these conditions.

carlosG-I am not being a jerk when I say this-I am serious. I think the set-up tool you need is a leaf blower and a few botles of grape soda (if your track allows it)!! Why chase set-up to practice on dusty tarmac.

If not-thres really not a lot you can do. if you use traction compund-your gonna pick up dust the first 5' you drive and have no traction.

I suppose maybe you could try running 5mm ride height, 0.014 front springs, a heavier center spring to transfer what little you can transfer before tires give up traction to the fronts and then run really open cell natural rubber compound tires??

Or if you really are desperate, get some silicone from GE and make some cap tires. They stick on a polished concrete floor-the shood stick outside.

Ray is right. The track owner need to do some prep work on the track. Blow it off and use a garden sprayer to mist the racing surface with sugar water or grape soda. Contrary to popular belief this is done to keep the dust down not make the track sticky.

Once this is done you will want to run pink rear tires with purple fronts. Use Paragon GFX on the full rear tires and the inner quarter of the fronts. Let this soak in for 15 min. After 15 min cover the rear tires and the inner 1/4 of the fronts in a layer of SPF 45 suntan lotion and let it soak in until it turns clear. The paragon softens the tires and the suntan lotion makes it not pick up dust...trust me...it works.

Other than that just run the basics. .020" front springs, .063" t-bar using 2 pod screws, 30wt and olive center spring...it will work as long as the track it prepped.

FYI, if the track is not prepped even the sedan guys will have a miserable time.

Ray and Adrian, thanks for the help and information you gave me. I am just trying to keep my driving skill better since our 12th scale class is slowly dwendling away. The top 2 drivers have now gone to race touring or just lost the bug to race unless we get more people to race. Again thanks for the info.

Just in case it needs to be mentioned....

You need to wipe off the resulting wintergreen/coconut smelly goo off your tires 5 min before you race :D

I had NO idea whatsoever what the spf30 was for untill today!! Thats pretty cool.

Ive never driven a 12th scale outdoors, but I got to think on a prepped surface a mod 12th has got to be awesome!! Pure RC racing joy!!
