1s lipo+12thscale+13.5= sucks! whats the deal?
well, i just ran my 12th scale last nite after switching over to a 1s lipo. all i gotta say is, that sucks! its freakin slow! no rip at all. i am running a tekin rs smc 50c battery and a novak balistic 13.5. all i know is it was alot faster with nimh batteries, no, it was ALOT better. i am prolly missing the setup. i knew it wouldnt have the same perf as my nimh batts, but man this is really bad. i was running a 75 spur and a 39 pinion, its as big a pinion as i had with me. motor was a cool 110 degrees. i tried raising boost, lowering static timing, tried turbo, but i feel there isnt enough voltage to make any of that stuff make any diff. am i way off on the gearing? suggestions?

well, i figured as much. i put on the biggest pinioni had. our track is smaller, i think 65x45. but anyway, looks like i need to pick up some pinions in the 45-55 range should cover it, yes?

i have one of those too an xray, just break it too damn often. i hate the steering knuckles in them, seems like you barely touch something and they are broken. the 12th scale stays together and i rarely dnf with it. i just wasnt having fun with it, i have always been better with a 2 wheeler anyway, dirt or onroad. people complain alot about having to buy tires for the 12th, but here, break a xray steering knuckle or 2 and a caster block, and you just dropped 25 bux in parts for one day of fun, the foams arent even 20 dollars anymore nowadays and those are good for at least 2 race days and a practice session or 2. we run rubber sedan at my track anyway.

steve, we had some people sniveling a little about the unfair advantage the nimh batts give due to the big voltage increase and all. some werent going to race anymore until we all convert and get on a even field. funny thing is they were still ahead of me with their diadvantaged lipo batt. so i converted as well. i do like the lipo part with the less battery maint and all, but, it is going backwards as far as power goes. i could reel any of them in going down the straight pretty bad....i prolly woulda sniveled as well. i had the weight penalty, they had the voltage penalty, was even in my mind. i cant say it is really that much slower as drew ellis went like a 8.8 or 8.9 with the lipo. i would be stoked to run a 7.4 lipo saddle pack and like 21.5 motor or 17.5, that would be fun. just tough on tires!

I've struggled with the dropoff in the past, but found that there are ways around the problem. Use moderate amounts of timing boost and low motor timing to avoid significant dropoff, and setting your car up to allow for "WFO" racing later in the run also helps since you're not modulating the throttle as often. I've seen my dropoff decrease to less than 1/2 second/lap using these tricks, and I need all the help I can get!!!

If it's the same why the post? If Drew was running a 4 cell pack it would have been a 8.2!
