MX5 - a one way allows the front wheels to free wheel when off power so that breaking is done only by the rear tires. This allows all of the traction capability of the front tires to turn the car. Also the front wheels are locked together on power(no diff) and this gives a little more agressive steering when on the throttle.

Thanks for the info. I've seen one-ways talked about but didnt know what it did. Just got TC3 few weeks ago. I run it on carpet track and it seems to push too much. Maybe one-way would help.

If you run foam tires on carpet a one-way is not a good idea, rubber tires on carpet can benefit from a one-way.

If you hit the boards a lot a one way is not a good idea because you will end up breaking drive shafts or the oneway.

i'm not pat but i have run one ways on carpet. A shaft,(or in the case of belt cars, layshaft) one way, can be used sometimes. In the case of the TC3, it tends to help the car roll thru the corners better without upsetting the balance too much. Depends on the car though. The one way diff usually is too much though. The difference between on and off power steering can be pretty violent, and the car tends to be really unforgiving off of the corner. In other words if you get on the power with the wheels still turned you go right into the board. And they feel really inconsistent and squirrelly. In other words turn all the one ways bad habits on rubber tires up to 11.

Its just pretty much one of those "rules" I heard it from some people that have won national events in sedan with foam on carpet so I never really questioned it.

One-ways are best used on flowing tracks where you don't use brake. I don't think I have ever seen a flowing carpet track due to size restrictions indoors.

Trips....I always wondered why they say not to use a oneway with foams. I always run a oneway on carpet but I only run rubber. I have noticed that the factory drivers setups for foams never seem to have oneways but they always run one for rubber tires. Any ideas why?

So why do associated supply a starting set up for 1 way with foams on their website?

The One Way with rubber allows the car to have more turn in and exit speed.

The Onw Way with Foams is overkill. You already have enough traction that adding the one way will make the car over sensitive.

DW can you point out that setup on Associated site, I dont see a setup for carpet with foams and a one-way.

I think its being misinterpreted. Look at it it says

General
1. Battery Position: rear
2. Oneway or Diff: Diff

It says use the diff

One-ways with Foams on carpet is overkill to the MAX!!! That's alot of steering. One-ways with Rubber tires, on the other hand...

Has anyone noticed that if you swap the rear hub carriers/uprights/whatever round (put left upright on right wishbone etc) then you can get 0 degrees toe in?
They don't tell you that in the manual do they, its just "yeah, buy this bit, then this bit, then this bit..."
