i'd like some more info on the yok shock caps, no one here is running them. you guys using the bladders, caps & taking out the foam or what?

dave, a thread like this is invaluable, i found this one when it was on 206 pages, i started at #1..... reading. it took me over a week to catch up, but i've read every page

proficar, we practiced with you friday night for that tri-state event. i was running the blue G350gt body. saturday my car spent a lot of time in the crowd as i adjusted to the "road doom" corner dots. yeah, i said doom not dome

DaveW:

The Avante? That's the buggy that had alloy everything and multi link rose-jointed suspension! I remember it.

My mate had one when I was a teenager, but he kept breaking it cos he couldn't drive

I couldn't afford to buy it off him either. As far as I know, he still has it in his attic - must be worth something now!!

Suntan lotion - no way!!!

I once used EP 80 gearbox oil in my shocks. Needless to say all the O-rings dissolved and my shocks were soon bone dry

DaveW, I assume you've tried Penguin? I got a 3mm thick sheet from them when I made my top deck for the older Yokomo.

Default Diff setup for carpet

Hi all,

I had some difficulty last night setting up my car and I did find the diffs were set way wrong. Some help would be appreciated since I adjusted to full tight then backed off 1/2 turn per the manual and it was still rock tight.

First how should the diff be setup for carpet racing, Front loose/rear tight or viseversa or what?

What is the best way to tell when the above setup is correct? How does it feel?

Thanks

DAVEPULL: HOLY CRAP MAN!! That site has all kindsa goodies on it!! YES YES!!

SPEEDO: Penguin R/C? Didnt they make a chassis for the TC3 a few years ago? Or am i thinking of someone else?

HORATIO: We need to visit this mate of yours with that Avante in his attic. Surely i have something of value he could be interested in... i would introduce him to my ex-wife, but if she was of no use to me, then i am sure he wouldnt want her either. The Avante was a sweet car, it was supposedly Tamiyas competition for the Yokomo dogfighter that was out at the time. We see what happened with that, didnt we??

Guys, thanks so much for your responses on the fiber! Ive got to get a top brace made!!

RINKRAT: Did you compress the springs that go in the diffs before assembly?

They didn't make a chassis, but they did make some chassis braces.

They sell 9 x 7 inch sheets from 1.5-3mm thick c/f.

Dave,
I got my sheet in FINALLY (After it got lost in the mail!!!!!!!!). I got it from penguinrc.com. The last time I ordered it I got it very quick, like 2 days, but this time they forgot to put my Apt. # so I did not get it until a few days ago.

My upper deck turned out great! I made it yesterday. It looks to be very functional. I made it with 2.5mm graphite. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow, so check back here tomorrow night .

I have a lot to do tomorrow. First, I am going to mill a chassis for someone, then, I am going to rebuild my tc3 completely.

I am going to be doing a lot of testing this weekend. I have yet to mess with putting the rear shock tower on the front, and I want to experiment with different caster and rear toe settings.

Good luck guys with your carbon fibre sheet etc.

DaveW:

I'll let my mate know about your offer. Knowing him, he'd probably accept

davepull, you let the cat out of the bag on McMasterCarr.com i get lathe bits from them & sell for $10 at the track anybody tried the diamond bits they sell?

proficar, try 4degrees caster and 0 anti-dive for foams & reg diff on carpet. i haven't done the rear shock tower yet either but will try soon. also with foams you can run 1degree rear toe. use the "F" block in rear with the "R 2+2" or "R 2+0". some guys use the losi uprights to run 0degrees
