i gotta tell you, the exotek was great in practice. its like a totally different car. im not sure how it compares to other cars, but it felt good when i was driving it. seem to rotate better, and definitely had traction. i will race it next week, so ill have more then.

Raced my F104 Pro on a parking lot track yesterday. Started out with DJ's Tamiya track setup (except for tire size 60mm instead of 57mm). During practice I was using JTG for traction compound and suntan lotion (I know I should have been using Paragon GE - but didn't have any) and the car was still way too loose. Thought maybe it was the B type foams not hooking up so went back to stock foams. JTG with stock foams was still to loose on and off power. Took the diff lube off the damper plate, put less tension on the damper plate and backed out the t-bar screw as much as possible and was still spinning out. Luckily, a guy I was pitting next to recommended to try some Red Dot and the car finally hooked up.
I used Red Dot on the rear tires only since the car seemed to be steering well without any traction compound up front. However, the car did wear the front tires alot more than the rear. Started out with 60mm tires front and rear. Ended the day with 58.5 rears and 55.5 fronts. Was very happy I could adjust the front end ride height as the tires wore. Need to get the front end working to get the tire wear a little more even. Maybe try red dot up front or put on the B type foam. Maybe just go back to the DJ base setup use with Red Dot or Paragon GE and start from there again. Ended up TQ'ing and finished 3rd in the main.
For radio settings (M11x), ended with -25 for steering expo, -20 for throttle expo, and brake epa at 90 percent to keep the rear end from swapping ends under braking. Endpoints for steering were set to 100 and D\R at 40. Rollout was 58 to 59mm on a 140 foot straight.
Had a great main with cars 1-2-3 finishing about 1 to 2 seconds. Two F103's and an F104 were on the podium.
Plan to continue my F104 development at an indoor track for this fall\winter and will share whatever I learn. If you don't know where to start I highly recommend starting out with the DJ setup and tuning from there.

i dont know if anyone may have tried this, but i will ask anyway.
other than the vintage f1 bodies (Wolf, Lotus) of tamiya, has anyone tried to use the vintage bodies from ZEN, TRG, and D-Drive Sports on their F-104?
if so, which bodies fit? and did you have to make major modifications to it?

i was testing the ride super softs on the rear and liked the traction they provided on carpet, they would hop a bit on fast corners but very controllable and manageable, still testing to find a good front tire to give the car optimal balance. One thing i noticed about the ride tires is they dont seem to pick up carpet debris, and therefore stay pretty consistent over long runs.
