I know that when we go from standard 2.2 buggy tires to 2.0 custom works street tracs we can gear up 4 teeth on the pinion to give us about the same performance. My 13.5 is really fast for what it is, but as a racer I always want to make the car faster. My motor comes off at about 135 and I am not affraid to run it up to 160-170 if the performance gains are worth it. Can sombody help me out here?
I have run 5.5 & 6.5 with 528 MOD in a sprint car on loose dirt. This may not equate exactly with what you are doing, but maybe there are some general hints.

I dropped 2-3 teeth 48 pitch from where i was non boosted. I also had the delay set at 0, and 4000 (or 3500, whatever the minimum is) start RPM. Basically, I started the ATMS timing fairly low, and added looking at temps and what the track could handle. I also set #15 high, like 7 or 8 to keep the power from coming on too harsh and keep temps in check. DRRS is also low to keep the throttle smooth. 13.5 may be need to be set a bit more aggressively.

I was at 7.4 FDR on a 150ft straight with a 10.5 Novak SS, so you can adjust from there.

Thanks for this mate.

Just a question though - looking at this setup - with everything already maxed out - would i just be looking at the FDR for improvement?

You really shouldn't have to max everything out. Personally, I think you need a whole lot more gear with a 21.5. Like in the low to mid 4's.

Well that's what I was used to - mid 3's very low 4's but with being out of the game for a while I am uncertain - you got a base setup for the 528 I could use aswell?

Not really, I have never used a 21.5. I just would rather avoid maxing out EVERYTHING if possible.

#15 was never max out...and usually, those setting are for 21.5, 17.5 and 13.5 motor. We adjust the time delay (#14) depends on the straight lenght. We adjust the RPM start (#13) base on the motor TURN. And we adjust the #15 depends on the feel....

I have NEVER max out #15....however, #9 and #12, it is like default (max out) for me (at least for 13.5 17.5 and 21.5 stock motor).

And yes...gearing play the most important parts of these setup. Like I said...with my setup, it has the best power (my opinion and my feels) when I use TALL gear...with a 21.5, it can be 6 or so. However, YOU have to try it, then check the temp of the motor and check lap time compare to others...if you have rooms to GEAR UP....by all means, DO IT...you might be able to gear to 5 or even higher...

I have yet to run 21.5 with BOOST so I can only tell you what I think is the best when running 17.5...and I am just assuming I will use the 17.5 setup on ESC and GEAR UP....my 17.5 motor was running some low to mid 7 FDR..and I will take 21.5 motor can gear up by 1 lower...like low to mid 6 FDR...just my theory.
