yes the Futaba S9550/S9551 servo is the most popular touring car servo at my local track

What radio do you have?

A futaba 4pk would be better with a bls451, for example(more steps)....

hard to argue with the Ko 2413, fast fast with more than enough torque for touring

best bang for the buck is the s9551. it has the feature of speed and torque. or even better....ko propo....pds2413. both digital and MG gear.

i do have the BLS451 and it is awesome, but if you want a low profile less weight type servo i would go with either one mentioned above....

So from what people are suggesting, the two favourites are the Futuba s9551 and the KO PDS2413.

Its mainly between these two... what looks interesting however is the Futaba bls451.

Since the price difference is not really a deciding factor, would it be worth going to brushless? Or staying safe with one of the 2 servos mentioned above.

I know there is really no right or wrong answer, but it is good just to get a general opinion of what people think....?

The 9550 is a very smooth servo. I run it in all my touring cars. I've run the KO2413 before and it is also a very good servo, but it was not as smooth as the 9550 and was just a little "edgy" for my tastes. I haven't tried the 9551 or the BLS451 yet, but I'm sure that they are both great servos. You can't go wrong with any of the 4.

I have a TC Spec, going into a Futaba FASST Receiver.
Say for example i get the S9551, how many volts will the servo be getting?

4.8 or 6.0?

Sometimes a car or racer cannot utilise the faster speeds of a servo, and that's where the 9550/9551 goes +1, it doesnt usually need to be slowed down to make the car more drivable.

Some faster servos can make the car feel too twitchy on hard cornering if the car isnt dialled in right, or the racer can't get used the speed of a high torque/speed servo.

At a much higher level of competition, most guys can make the car perform well with the highest speed/touque servos though, so it's not an issue...

I ve been using Fut S9451 in my nitro TC since I started this hobby. Never have to replace anything other than the servo casing ear cracked during hard impact. Now I m using it in my EP TC too...however its being discontinued now(correct me if I m wrong) to make way for the BLS451 which has the same spec only with brushless motor. I do have KO2413 and Fut 9551 too..havent tried it yet in my EP TC though.

you can always slow a servo in the radio settings, you cannot speed it up



the BLS451 is the smoothest servo but it's big

Im currently running a futaba S9451, its a full sized servo so im used to the full size. The low-profile servo would be something more useful in terms of chassis weight. But there is still something about the BLS451.

Has anyone else had experience with the Futaba BLS451?
