Default First Race with the 415MS

Hi all,

I've been reading this thread for about a month (actually read from page 1... ouch), but I've never posted. Thanks to everyone who contributed, the tips and tricks made it much easier to understand the car once I got around to building it.

I've got the MS, and finally put it together last week. I've been running a XXX-S, and it's been a great car (have been waiting for the JRXS).

I started with the box stock setup, only changing the pistons to 3 hole, and going to 35wt Losi oil all around. My first practice the car felt really good, though I didn't have a transponder in it, so I wasn't sure how quick it was. I race at So Cal, tight high grip asphalt, so I was thinking it might not be the best place for this car and setup, but it still felt great.

On Saturday, after comparing times betwen my XXX-S and the 415 back to back in practice, the MS went 11.1, XXX-S 11.0, so I figured I'd race it in stock. I ended up taking the win in Sportsman, the car felt quick and consistant, with a fast lap 10.6 in the A main. I may have been a little quicker with the XXX-S, but this is an outstanding first race for this car, especially since I only had 4 packs through it before the first qualifier, AND it wasn't really designed for an indoor track. To be fair, this weeks track is about as open and flowing as I've seen at So Cal, but it's still pretty tight.

Just wanted to share my good experience, and thank everyone for thier help. I'll be trying different setups, the locked center pulley and a spool soon.

Mike

Like i did... nice silver effect on where the spur holder rubbed on the bulkhead....

And SCML, welcome to the club, I'm sure you'll grow to love the car.

Cool Who's that driver???

O.K. i've been reading this thread at work today, wondering who that other driver was at carpetwars, so I make a phone call, and now I know.

Why is it such a big secret? He was there running it in front of everybody and i'm sure everybody on this thread will be well chuffed when they find out.

But I think I'll keep quiet for now

Dom,
dont expect the world huh! Just kidding..
Ackerman changes. This is what I have been playing with for some time now. I have flipped the rack, and moved the ball stud to the rear hole on the hub. The FARTHER from linear the tie rod from the arm becomes the less ackerman you have. This helps corner speed to a point. The equality of the wheels turning is key. If the link was closer to a linear pint to the suspension arm, you would increase ackerman, this would make your car cut into turns harder, but scrubbing corner speed down because of the ackerman... I hope this helps.

Raul,

Excellent explanation. Thanks! That's what my assumption was, guess I'll find out this Saturday with the 4 different combo to get a feel of it.

How about adding spacer under camber link? What is the effect on the car's RC? Tnx.

It will lower the RC. But usually the effect on the camber change is more felt on the car's handling than the change in RC position when doing this. This means, if you want more lateral grip then remove shims, but you'll loose traction, and vice versa.
