Back to the topic at hand...F1's

Here is a cool article about downforce generated on RC F1 cars. I don't know exactly what it says but I understand the numbers they're posting. If anyone wants to translate and post what's written I'm sure everyone would appreciat it.

OK, I asked a coworker of mine to translate the basics of what was written in the article from rc-japan.de. I've tried to illustrate this below in each of the three figures. It should be allot easier to understand what they've done. Based on the pictures below Fig 2 is the base line measurements for the F104. In Fig 3 you can see the result of making changes to the body or rear wing settings. Hope you all enjoy it.

Fig 1. (below)
a. Measure front down-force
b. Measure rear down-force
c. Air duct
d. Air in-take
e. Measure drag


Fig 2. (below)
a. Drag
b. Front down-force
c. Total down-force
d. Center of wind pressure
e. Rear down-force


Fig 3. (below)
a. Center of wind pressure
b. Drag
c. Total down-force
d. Front down-force
e. Rear down-force

Default Best Downforce bodies....

Looks like the older F1 bodies will give you substantially more downforce! That yellow body looks like an early 90's Williams or Lotus?...I could be wrong. I hope they used a windtunnel speed representative of the cars speed on an average track.

at the expense of more drag.. so it really depends.
On the last page of the article, they seem to show that the tech racing body (br125) mixed with the old style rear wing, and tehc racing front wing were the best compromise..

but my japanese is spotty at best..

The yellow body is the Tamiya Lotus 107.

The rear wing on the Tech chassis is the new 2009 rear wing. Much taller than the 2008 style wing. More like the Cross wings.

I don't think it's the bodies that are necessarily producing the downforce...

it's the wings that are mounted...

and the old-school multi-element (3-element) wings always have produced more downforce..

I have one on my HPI Super F1 (came with it)
