Default Northeast Grand Slam Series

Dear Racers,

The Gate (Cleveland, OH), 360 Speedway (W. Babylon, NY), The Track (Gaithersburg, MD), and Fastcats (Oakville, ON) are the proud hosts of the first annual 2008-2009 Northeast Grand Slam. An increasing population of racers feel that too many of our resources are being diverted to “Mega-Races” and away from the local tracks which are struggling to stay open. By aiding these facilities with this effort, the tracks that have become a staple in the region will stand a better chance of survival.

We understand that many racers still would like the opportunity to attend at least one of the National events, so the series will not interfere with any of those existing races. The first race of the series will be October 24-26th at The Gate in Cleveland, OH and the second will be December 12-14th at Fastcats in Oakville, Canada. The third race will take place January 16-18th at 360 Raceway in Long Island, NY and the fourth race will be February 20-22nd at The Track in Gaithersburg, MD. The four participating tracks already host large events annually on their own, and the goal is to bring them all together and increase the attendance and exposure for each.

Further, many racers may not have the means or desire to spend upwards of $1,000 and use up to 5 vacation days to attend a single, week-long event. This series will provide a regional outlet and more affordable alternative to the budget-minded enthusiast, and allow them to use their vacation/sick days to attend more races. More bang-for-the-buck, if you will.

There is a strong field of talent in this part of the country, and the Northeast Grand Slam will provide us with a handful of regional venues to compete with each other in the classes that have gained the most regional interest.

Classes Offered: 17.5 & 10.5 Foam Sedan, 13.5 Rubber Sedan, 17.5 & 10.5 1/12, and 13.5 World GT.

Additionally, each track will have the option of hosting a "Raceway Choice" class. Many tracks have a particular class that is a favorite of the local racers - Vintage T/A, Mini-Coopers, etc. This class will use the established class rules of that local facility, and will be disclosed upon distribution of their particular race flyer.

Schedule: all events will follow the same race schedule (subject to change).

Friday: Open practice (controlled by class if necessary), 10:00am-8:00pm, 8:00-10pm Late arrival practice
Saturday: Late arrival practice 7:00am-8:00am, Controlled practice 8:00am-11:00am, and 3 qualifiers
Sunday: Open practice 8:00am-9:00am, 9:10am 1 qualifier and Mains

I wish Tri-State Hobbies in Cincinnati had participated in this. Looks cool! May have to catch a race or two of it.
