What turn motors are you guys using in your modified class?

GWH74 05-09-2009 07:56 PM

Lipo packs

What is the minimum clearance under the rear shock on the RC12R5?
Mine is on the way and i was just checking if one cell of the IP saddle pack Lipo would fit under.
Will the SMC one will have much lower COG i already have a few saddle packs i can use for practice.

How about if you put this with the yeah racing brainless 13 turn brushless motor. Does it perform as well as 4 cell nimh.

With the weight of the battery being very light , the set up changes and the gear ratio goes through the roof . Try it with a roll out of 3.1 inches or 78.75mm. It wont have the bottom end you are used to but it will corner like a dream. Good luck with those friggin' archaic round cells.. they are becoming a thing of the past.

I have run an orion and novak 13.5 with a smc 1c lipo and it NEVER left me wanting more power. Even against guys that can put it in the A at national events !!! It is a diffrent setup if you run light but my car wighted to 800 grams could run the same setup as a 4cell. At 720 grams I had a few changes to make to get the corner speed out of it.

3.2 roll out seems to be the sweet spot for most motors. I would start there and see how it acts.

Same here, found 3.2 rollout to be sweet ! Using DUO 13.5 in middle timing and boost at 20 on Tekin RS.

what pinion and spur are you running with the 1 cell lipo...just getting an idea.

I'm new to all the lipo business in rc cars. What is the required gear to get the set up working. Is there a diagram that i can look at or a guide of some sought. Also the yeah racing esc only supports 2 to 3 cell lipo. Is it still possible to go ahead with the set up you have suggested.

Pinion = 42
Spur = 72
Rear tires 44.3mm
Rollout 3.2

You can start with rear tires at 46 mm and front at 44mm and drop pinion to 41 for a rollout of 3.23

This setup works fine for me with a Tekin RS version 194 firmware and boost at 15, motor at middle timing on a DUO 13.5.

Also use a voltage booster.

Hope this helps.

please advise on what sort of setup changes you guys are making to account for the lighter lipo pack? Softer springs? softer tires? what?

I am curious about this also. With the ROAR lipo rules, I will probably be getting a 12R5 to race this winter with LiPo and a 13.5.

I'm surprised you're asking these questions. After all you are the "Godfather"! I'm still in the process of putting mine together.

Yokomo

RC Market in HK has the Yokomo rear bulk head brace in stock. US$25

Start with a step softer spring, side and front. Maybe a touch softer side damping and go from there. Or you could just bring the car upto 800 grams with a weighted plate and drive it with the same setup as 4cell stock.

So what are the roar rules for lipo in 1/12th?
