SMC 28C 4000/5000 Hardcase Lipo part 2

Direct soldering should only be done if your concerned about the best possible voltage and IR from the packs. In testing a good connector will increase the IR by 1.5 milliohms and drop the voltage .04 at a 35 amp discharge. I personally think a connector is fine shouldn't make a big difference on the track but with our packs you have the option.

Waiting on the prototype to come in and if all looks good we will go to production. The approximate size will in millimeters will be 26H x 46W x 68L.
Originally the capacity was going to be 5200 but the pack would of been over 30mm in height so we decided to retool and make the pack not as tall so it fits under all the topdecks of the current offroad cars. So now the pack will be a 5000/28C.

Simple question (I hope?)
What makes Li Po packs blow up and how do we avoid this? I talk to a lot of people who are keen to swap but they are worried about safety.
Thanks.

Someone asked on the last page how these packs are working in other forms of racing other than TC. Ran a 5000 pack last week in off-road in a buggy, tied to a Putnam 7.5 Brushless... Great rip, very consistent throughout the races (mains are 8 minutes. We weren't doing any heating (track was slick, figured we didn't need more rip!)
Well done, Danny... Wires out the top- even better!

They blow up if you overcharge them. The best way to avoid this is to follow the ROAR rules.
see http://www.roarracing.com/downloads/...ipo_Reader.pdf
and the rule book (starting on page 33)

follow the included instructions, use the proper charger set to the lipo function, never discharge them to far, and for soft side lipos, avoid damage. we have used lipos at our oval track in sedans, trucks, EDM, sprint, 1/18, and offroad truck for over a year with NO explosions or fires.

In the ROAR Li Po rules can someone explain the term "dual layer" safety feature.
