Well, pulled the trigger and ordered the Tamiya dcj axles today. I was really torn between the 3Racing and the Tamiya. I've got loads of single joint axles from 3Racing and Tamiya. They're both very good and the parts are even interchangeable between them.

So, who's got them and what do you think? They're steel, like the regular ones, right?

Great job Tamiya for coming out with dcj drives, like I suggested in 2012.... Better late than never, but I hope they also plan to make them in 7075 aluminum too.... Cheers....

I think you made the right choice as Tamiya quality is almost always better than 3Racing in my opinion. I've had my eye on the DCJ axles too ...

Would be a waste in a mini. They already have enough torque to wheelspin, so the minimal weight reduction won't help with acceleration.

I have tried most of them over the years...

I have had excellent luck with the now-discontinued Yeah Racing (#M05-015) and the Arrowmax versions. You just need to assemble them with threadlock (the YR ones) and they last forever. I have 16 full WCICS race weekends, plus almost two full years' worth of club races on one set of YR M05-15's and they still look new. The diff outdrives wear out way before the axles.

The old 3Racing versions with the spring clip pin retainer seemed to fail with the spring popping off - not sure how that do that - anyways the pin soon works out and trashes the hub.

I haven't tried the Tamiya spec ones, but they released them in the M05 Ver. IIR kit I have sitting on my shelf. Not sure if I will build that, or let it collect dust with the rest of them.

It might help in combination with lighter tires but for top speed more than starting acceleration....

Thanks for the replies. I figure I pretty much can't go wrong with the Tamiya ones and I'll probably heat shrink them to be extra sure they don't come apart. The only downside is they don't appear to be spring steel. None of my other axles are other, so I think it'll be fine.

Please stop spouting such nonsense. As has been explained to you many times in different threads, weight reduction on that scale doesn't affect top speed, it affects acceleration. See Newtons second law of motion, F = m a. Air resistance won't change, and rolling resistance from ground friction will have negligible change with such a small change in weight, so at top speed the forces are at the same equilibrium point.

In fact, FWD minis often accelerate quicker with added mass, due to more forward traction. They wheelspin if they're too light.

The trick with dcj axles has nothing to with acceleration or top speed, it has to do with smoothness when cornering.

I really like them(both in my mini & in my touring car), & yes, they are steel, so they should be able to take all the abuse you can subject them to(mine have shown NO signs of wear so far, & the group I race with can play pretty rough)....:cool:

Correct, they're intended to reduce/eliminate chatter under cornering, so you can carry more corner speed, rather than fight the car to get it to turn....:cool:

Bert was having his usual allergic reaction to anything made out of steel, and wanted aluminium DCJs to save weight.

Will be tested soon.... Stay tuned....

Hopefully they'll help compensate for my tires. I got some 1016 premounts and the assembly quality is way down this year. They're kinda lumpy!
