I don't know about the springs but how do you like the new car compared to the old one. I am thinking about ordering it.

I really like the car alot...it seems more forgiving than the old car and is smoother. The fit and finish is definitely alot better than the old one and is far better than the last Losi i built for a friend. All the purple hop-ups definitely have flash appeal

W00T I'm getting a type t.
gospeed-to compare springs, take the 2 springs you wish to compare. Put them on a nutdriver or screwdriver with a large Dia. shaft. Kinda stack the springs so they line up and push down. You will see which one compresses first, the softer spring. You can even compare progression by watching the springs as they compress.

Thanks robk...pretty ingenious idea i never thought of that. Congrats on getting your new car. It goes together so good and handles real well...you will like it alot. I am just running the stock setup with 60w oil. Let me know if you find something better.

Hey i just put the new type T together. Let me say it is much improved over the old car, fit and finish as well as some nice geometry changes. The plastic seems to be much stiffer, also nice. The chassis builds up real stiff, big plus for carpet, esp. foam tire races. Seems to be as stiff as a Stock Mission, or slightly less so. The only thing i don't like is that i can't set the inner mounts higher (higher roll center). But I will find a mill and take down the suspension mounts 1 or 2 mill so I can move them up a bit. Just a really nice car, I'll let everybody know what happens at the track (foam tire carpet).

i just got back from the track with the new car. i was really impressed with how well it worked based on what i thought might be ok. A friend and i went to the GLRC club in Grand Rapids MI for the Carpet Racing League foam tire event there (we 're from Chicago). I think they got over 100 entries total (1/12, and sedans, stock, 19t, and sportsman). We got there late so i ran about 3 laps before practice closed.

I tried both oneways in the first heat. Real bad idea on foams, but i just wanted to try it. The diff went in the front for 2nd round, and i ran it with the layshft 1 way. The car was twitchy, but had great corner speed when you hit the lines right. Just not easy to drive. I qualified 6th(?) in the B main, and finished 8th, out of like 50 stock sedan entries. My car was a little too tuff to drive consistently for all the "action" on the track. After the race, i locked in full time 4wd, and it helped to calm the car down. I was surprised it did retain most of the steering.

Yep Rob your corner speed was ballistic I thought, even when compared to ALL of the "A" guys. You just needed the handling to come in a little better but that is definately there for the adjusting. I have found that the hardest thing to get from a chassis regardless of the class is Corner Speed. If the chassis has it than setting the car up to handle well is usually no problem. Often times it seems that when adjustments have to be made to try and Impart Corner Speed to a chassis then that's when it seems you can never get the handling to be good and consistent from track/condition to track/condition. Some chassis's seem to simply have better geometries, rigidity, and layout than others. This new Atlas2 car looks like it has it, but hey I'm only a 12th scale mod racer so what's that worth? LOL-Dave

I got out to the track this week for a bit of testing. Couple things i found out"

*7 deg. caster is about right for foam tires. I tried 9 but it wasn't very good on the short tight track. Maybe it would work for a wide open track, but 7 seems to be the way to go. I wish there was a 4 or 5 deg. block just so I could see what it would do.

*The rear shocks work best stood all the way up. My car was sliding abit, not really loose just not locked. The outside hole on arm and tower really did the trick.

*For me a really light rear sway bar worked well. I tried no rear sway bar, but the car felt really heavy in the corner and got too much side bite. An .055 rear bar (slightly heavier than stock) was the ticket.

So far so good. I think I may try some rubber tire in the next week, just for a contrast to foams.
