Brian, why don't you go with a smaller spur?

Just a quick question, it may sound stupid but, will my motor get hotter if i set in some drag brake?

Yes, drag brakes apply small amounts of additional voltage that would otherwise be coasting if you didn't have it. Usually not enough to worry about though...I'd guess you'd see less then 5 degs. difference depending on usage.

Since it's pretty clear that 27t motors are outgunned by 13.5's, and if there are brushed guys still complaining about the difference and won't throw down for the new gear, I am having a lot of fun running my Brood 23t in our 13.5 class. In an eight minute race I am able to run dead even with the 13.5's, it's only the occasional clipped pipe that puts me behind or ahead of the brushless cars. I run brushless too, I'm just doing the brushed motor thing lately. Really, 23t brushed and 13.5 brushless are straight up even.

I just wish TCS would change up to the 23t in the GT2 class to run with the 13.5's.

I think we are going to be running 17.5's in the stock class. I seems everyone is testing these and they are working out better then the 13.5's from a speed standpoint.

Lets hope a more controllable speed/car will help the sport grow.

There's a bunch of guys doing this locally as well. It's beginning to seem like 17.5 should be the new "stock," and 10.5 the new 19T. 13.5 has been too much to handle for a lot of people on our small carpet track lately.

Gotta love the 17.5. I refuse to take it out of my carpet/rubber car

A fishy feeling 13.5 car is dialed with the 17.5. Great motor for "stock" TC. I wish I could get more guys running it in our rubber touring class.

If Novak's motors weren't so ugly and unruly with their giant sensor harness, I might be slightly more excited about 17.5. I admit it, though, I've got some bench racer in me, and I want a motor that looks as good as the rest of my car. I know, it's flawed, I can't help it. I'm sorry Novak guys, I think you're all awesome and love how your motors perform, but they're the ugly ducklings of the brushless world.

I'm going to have to agree with this one, even though I just picked up a Novak. I bought the LRP (first) to keep with the AE theme since I'm running a TC5, and like the appearance way better. All things equal I'd lean LRP, but I'm still undecided if they are equal. The Novak can be tidy'd up with tape over harness and the optional anything but purple please rings. It runs very nice with the 2007 LRP Sphere comp.

My LRP started cogging to the point it would not even start, after I played with timing (went to 5 degs...dont try this!), so I bought the Novak as a backup. I put the timing back to 2 degs, and problem solved...thought I burned it there for a moment.

I just picked up one of the Orion Vortex 13.5's for my B4 and I love it! maybe it's not the best for on-road...but the powerband is great for us off-roaders! After the first run tonight...i'm sold on it!

I especially like the design of the can! All machined...black...looks really mean...I couldn't help myself and I re-wired my Sphere ESC to all black 14 gage wire...it looks so killer!

I still want to get a shorter sensor harness (on the way) and clean up the wires to the motor a bit more, but it's getting close. I need like a 2" harness.

Default Gearing Chart for the 13mm tuning rotor

FDR for Sedan with rubber tire/use rollout formula for foam.

motor rollout
3.5 9.5
4.5 8.5
5.5 7.6
6.5 6.75
7.5 6.3
8.5 5.85
10.5 5.0
13.5 4.0

Gearing Recommendations from NOVAK
The gearing recommendations should be used (only) as starting points with the 13.0mm rotor ,but the motor and ESC temperatures should always be used to determine the final gearing.

Neither the motor nor ESC should be hotter than 160-170 degrees after a 5 min. run. If either is higher than 175 the gearing should be lowered. The cooler they are ,the better the performance of the system.
This is from NOVAK
Hope this is of some help to some fellow racers
