Maybe pack 2 just need broken in more...

Remember this was only one cycle... and the packs have been sitting for a couple weeks too. The #'s might get better yet....

And these #'s are better than a couple other packs I did...

No special care... just run it, come back to the pits and recharge. Probably 10-15 runs on them at each race.
That makes more sense for the #2 being low. the number on the first 5000 looks great.

I look forward for my new Core to get here this week.

glassdoctor,

Your numbers for the 5000 are on either side of what I saw on mine after one week of running. I haven't recycled it now that it has several weeks on it, but I will and see if it has come up any.

I did notice with my "other" packs that the temperature had a significant impact on the numbers when cycled on the CE. Something to keep in mind. I'v started to discharge at 35 amps and then go directly into the cycle just to keep some consistency.

With temperature playing such a large role in LiPo performance, readings without controlled temp could almost be considered arbitrary.

I started heating my Core packs between races using a reptile heating pad I bought at PetSmart. It takes a while for the pad to heat up, but once it does, packs come out nice and toasty (outside case temp 120+) after sitting inside for a while. The difference in performance was striking. I had to gear my motor down two teeth to keep it from overheating due to the voltage.

Those new Core chargers look really nice.

You know its funny, "Warming LiPo's" has been around and known fact for years

I would double and triple check to make sure the "cells" are between 100-110 degrees while warming of course.

syndr0me - The chargers are awesome, I started using mine last weekend and its good times

I posted the temps of the packs. The only "issue" is that I did not verify that the internal temp was 90* and did not make sure that they were pre-warmed for the same time period. In the future I plan to give it more time to make sure the pack is warmed "through"

Both 5000 packs finished @ 135*F and the 3250 slightly cooler @125-130*F

The temps rise quite a bit in the last minute of discharge, btw.... like from 110-115 up to 135.

As for warming the packs by discharging them.... how much do they cool during the hour it takes to recharge?? I guess you could keep it wrapped up to stay warm.

why not make a warmer?
nicrome wire or a peltier will work and then just adapt the much more 3080 warmer control onto it and its temp controlled?
when can we buy these sweet new chargers?

If the LRP speed control's voltage cut offs aren't working correctly, is there a list of ESC's whose cut offs DO work?

"sweet new chargers" are available now!

On a side note I've heard a buzz about that many companies are working on "LiPo warmers" of such.

I have made them. I have several made and working now.

I've been trying different things... to make them more "commercial". Oh, and I've been extremely busy the last couple weeks with work and everything else.

My main concern is the liability in selling them and getting sued because some idiot leaves it on all night... or something malfunctions.

But making them is not a problem. I have a hardcase one and a couple softcase types. I should post some pics and see what you guys think....

ok im curious are the chargers good enough to charge some ib4600 packs?
i trust em with lipo but i may have to use nimh and just wanna be sure before i shell out the moola and also both ballance or just the $90, how long will balanceing take what harnesses do u need for orion packs and a core pack?
also can u partial charge? useful for storing nimh packs and lipo's as they dont like being stored over 90%.
cheers sounds sweet

I have not seen an issue with any other "mainstream" controller on the market.

Most racers charge NiMh cells at much higher amperage than 5A (maybe why they're so dangerous)

So if yu don't charge your NiMh cells higher than 5A your fine.

I had about 150 cycles on my Core 5000 and put it on the balancer this morning for the first time and it took 8 seconds to balance.

The balance plugs that come standard are the JST-EH type and fit the core packs, and most LiPo's up to 5S, but I think you'll need an adapter for Orion's (I have no clue what balance plug they use??)

As for storing LiPo's (partial charge) I just watch the amperage an pull it off the charger at 85%.
