Are breaking in your brushes?

What do you do to break in your bushes?

with no load on the motor i run mine in at 2 volts for about 3 minutes.

I have lowered my lathe bit a little and cutt the com, does this look good to go?

check your shims and make your comm be centered in the magnet field and when you break in your motor if you dot have a charger that can run a motor get like 2 or 4 loose cells and put them together when you do that attach alligator clips so you can just put them on the motor when it on a motor stand. when your done i file the side of the brushes down so they arent sharp. that should work.

I have cut the com seated the brushes for 3 minutes and then check the motor still only 18000rpm's losing 1400 rpms since i firts cut the com

If it's a new motor i would swap out the brushes. what are you running the motor in?

the motor is in a trf415 touring car for asphalt racing

check the end bell retaining plate to see if it is bent (due to overtightening your end bell or a collision). If it is bent, remove it from the end bell, and use a hammer to flatten it out against a cement floor or other solid object. Slap that sucker back onto the end bell.

Also, As a precautionary measure to ensure you don't get a "hung brush," gently pull back the brush by the shunt, and let the spring snap it back against the commutator. If the movement of the brush is sluggish or bound up in any way, remove the brush from the hood, and see why the brush can't travel freely through the hood. Anyone with other ideas?

the end bell plate was a little bent but so i straightened it but still on around 18000rpms dont know why???

how long have you had the motor?

Are your shims all in and in the right place? that will also make a difference in performance.
