Stupid N00b question time: Why is my car going backwards?!?
I've just desoldered (is that a word?!?) the motor from my tc3 and changed the armature in it to a 27t. I've put it all back together exactly as it was but now it goes backwards intead of forwards!!! I tried soldering the wires onto the other tabs (incase I got mixed up) and tried that. Smoke suddenly started to come from my speedo so I quickly soldered it back to the way it was originally.
Anyone know what I've done wrong? I've got racing tonight and don't fancy my chances racing backwards!!!

If the endbell/can is not 27turn (fixed timing) try unscrewing it and rotating it 180 degrees. Or you can do a servo reverse on the transmitter. Usually the motor endbell is marked with the positive side clearly shown. What motor is it?
I reassembled a mod motor backwards once like I stared above. The start of the 12th scale race was not what I expected as I shot backwards at insane speed.

There's no label on the can. My dad used to sort out all this stuff, I'd just race. Now it's just me and I don't have a clue! If I was to rotate the endbell would that not have the same effect as changing the wires on the tabs? I can't do servo reverse as my speedo is forwards only.

Also try switching the wires. Like resolder it to the tab that is opposite of what it's on.

Speedo and motor
on the motor their is usually a marking on the top
a + sign and -- sign
the negative wire (usually black) goes to -- side of the motor.
positive (usually red wire) goes on the other side.
same goes for the batteries, if you get the wires on the battery crossed it will cook/smoke the speed control also.
I usually recommended to people just starting to do their own maintenance to use dean plugs until you get use the wire layout.
I'm sure there are a few people at the track that can help you out.

At a guess you had a 19 in there before?
27's and 19's are wound in opposite directions, this reverses the motor.
You need to swap positive for negative, you say you did this but if smoke came out of the speedo then something was shorted. Are you sure you didn't solder onto the 2 seperate positive terminals for example? At a glance that would look right but be very wrong.
Rewire it "backwards" and make sure there is nothing shorting between +ve and -ve.

Did you install your diff backwards?? I know that in my tamiya tb-02 you can actually install the diff backwards, once i installed my diff in the front backwards and my front and rear wheels turned towards each other ... it was prety funny when I put it on the track and all it would do is donuts!!!
