Well your name is TC3 so you should be aware that AE TC3 spurs are actualy kimbrough's and are very good. I've recently been using Robinson Racing spurs and they are very nice but expensive. They have four holes which can be used for mounting so you can get two extra screws in and have less chance of warping the spur from overtightening two screws.
The kit spur is accuratly machined but I found it was a little flexy due to being delrin type material so when I tigtened the mounting screws I warped it, so it didn't last very long, looked like it was out o round too from the half destroyed side.

Unfortunatly I've not found a spur that makes the car super quiet. Most noise comes from elsewhere I think, which Dave did some good work on resolving. Namely the shimming of the bevel gears, to move the diffs away from the smaller gear and to remove all play in the small bevel gears, using kyosho shims.

After driving Rod's at the track, I felt good enough about the car to get one...

For 48 pitch, the best gear that I have been using is the Robinson machined TC3 gear (thank RBF for finding this one) It runs just about perfectly round, and my car has always been quiet with it. The Xenon gears that come with the car were really weak from what I found.

seems like i need longer pinions if i mount it on the rear side
For regular pinions, you shoud mount the spur on the front, for long shanks, you can mount it in the rear.

Actually, the shims moves the bevel gear closer to the diff gear! After I broke in my drivetrain, I added the shims to the bevel gear and also played with the shims on the diffs. My car now runs quieter than a TC3! :-)

Also, with the new shimming technique, I think Dave said not to sand down the teeth on the gears.
