And then it took 6 more years to simply gain another 1200mAh. 6 YEARS.

But it took nearly 20 to get from 1200 to 2400 (Plus we've got 4600's being tested on track already and I'd expect to see 4800's not too far into '07)

Doesn't effect about 99.9% of the racers out there. I haven't been able to dump a pack since the 3800's got here. I treat my personal packs like absolute crap, and they work great every time. And I'm no slouch.

Half our club doesn't even own 3800's, much less 4300's. WHY IS THAT? because they can't dump what they have. I'd say the majority of our 1/12 stock guys are still happily running 3300's. You know who are the real winners now? The people that realize that no amount of battery is going to make up for the 25 cormer marshals per heat that they require. And they are happy to run ANY pack. The new guy I sold 3 killer 3300 packs to last weekend for $20 was STOKED! He thought he was gonna need to spend about $200. He'd have been equally fine with 2400's.

The batteries have never been better, I'd say any off the shelf pack is capable of winning a national event in the right hands. And it has NOT always been that way.

Battery capacity has almost increased 400 percent but race lengths have only increased 25 percent BIG WHOOP!

Which is why the capacity argument and battery war argument are not very valid anymore, and really haven't been since the 3800's, or even the 3300's for some. 99.9% of us have ALL the battery power we need.

Like I've said before, my batteries ride the discharger nearly as much as ride in the car.

Last year when RC Pro started the electric series and I announced we would run 7 minute mains for stock and 6 minute for mods everyone freaked! Then at the 1st race when they realized they could do it with 3300's no one said a thing about the time the rest of the year except they loved the longer races. The brushless truck class was making 10 minute mains with 3300's. No one used more than 3800's since that was the limit. I see longer qualifiers and mains in 2008 which should give everyone time to upgrade their equipment.

Bob,

I agree way more than I could put in words...but we have that ugly thing called PERCEPTION. You know where the kid KNOWS he's being beat because YOU have something better than HIM.

First time I put my son on a track w/ a TC (old HPI Pro2) with a Reedy MVP Stock Motor and a pack of retired old 2000's (against guys w/ 3300's)...after he turned the fastest lap in the class...AND never slowed at the end...

I had guys accuse ME of putting a MOD or 19t Motor is his car. (Most of these guys had only been racing a year or less...and had NEVER seen a 2000 pack.) I couldn't make THAT pack dump in STOCK 5 minute racing.

Our TOURING Cars only get our WORN OUT Oval JUNK~

RCPro1,

I was sneakier at a race. The racers thought we were racing for 5 minutes, I set the clock for 7 to see when they would DUMP...

NOBODY DID, and they didn't get to change gears for the LONGER race.

at a recent OVAL race, I had a STOCK Racer (Winner of the STOCK & 19t Class Series) continue to run after his MAIN Event WIN. We kept him on the clock until his lap times slowed. He ran nearly 11 1/2 minutes at RACE SPEED. This was w/ the last batch of 3800's (Which DO test at 4200 mah)

You know what the beautiful part of that is? It makes those races a better value for the racers, as they get more tracktime for their racing dollar. If I had a choice between 2 events, I'd choose the one with more track time.

mn gumby,

Not so. When I started w/ yellow 1200's we only ran 3 minute races. People SCREAMED when we switched to 4 minute. I changed my OVAL series to 5 minute across the board in ALL classes for '06 and guys screamed...but only the nutty ones dumped. I'd like to go LONGER for Mains only...but it just adds more to the length of the program..and it seems the same guys still win..so WHY bother.

The other thing to look at is AMP draw.

With the OLD batteries (1200, 1400, etc.) it was pretty easy to miss the gear ratio and DUMP..you KNEW when you were over geared..cause you would NOT finish.

Now you just pull more amps..and might SUCK the speed out of the car..but like BobStormer said... you DON'T dump very often, if at all.

My old 1200's would only allow about 20 amps continuous draw for 4 minutes
1400's were closer to 23 amps
1700's were almost 30 (closer to 27-28 amps)
I was tickled when my 2000's could pull a full 30 amp average for 4 minutes and still have a few seconds left.

4200's run what? OVER 500 seconds @ 35 amps. (A mod motor pulling 35 amps is Ballistic...but they try to pull 80 and dump in 4-5 minutes depending on race length)
