To me, the greatest innovations are the Transmitter, Reciever & ESC. With out these, how would you control it.

the ICE backlight!!! Oh god, it is like night and day!!!!

now seriously, lightweight rechargeable batteries (NiCd, NiMh, LiPo and so on), that allows you to provide power to something that can be remotely controlled and actually move the weight of the battery itself..... Otherwise, no 1/10, 1/12, 1/18, even the 1/5 electric cars (or planes) would exist... instead you would have had only big trucks with lead acid batteries....
