I hope it is not a conversion kit. The R series is made to make the car more affordable, so you lose some of the parts that make it a T2.

It says on the site, making the car available for budget minded racers (not a quote).

Just like the raycer kits. T1R etc.

If the "R" follows the rest of Xray's "R" lineup it will be a more entry level molded kit. Just like the T1R and the XB8R (not really as much molded here but cheaper). Hotbodies is doing the same thing as well with a molded Cyclone.

So dont get to worried that your T2 is going to be out of date.

this is a good move by these companies.it gets more people experiencing there cars who normally wouldnt due to the inflated price tags.they usually make them so they can be upgraded to its big brother.good move.

yes its going to be a racer kit with a tub chasis but it will have lost some of the parts of the t2 just like the t1 and the t1r

It would also make sense for the people who want to run in the street, not everyone is a hardcore racer and Xray is currently only catering to them...

There's no way I'm taking my FK05 on the street or a lot...

I have to ask, is the T2 really that wonderful in a moulded platic form?
I'm really not overly excited, seeing as half the new little bits that were developed in the T2 over the T1 are things like the chassis flex tech (which seems like it won't matter with a big ol' tub chassis), new wheel mounts (WHOOPY! *Sarcasm*), new internal gear ratio (Is it really that great over the FK?)...

Maybe I'm missing something. Can someone tell me why i should be excited?

I'm more than happy for them to be developing a chassis that'll bring the price down, but other than that is there anything great about this thing not to mention that unless the price is immensly cheaper than that of the T2, I'd still buy a T2...
Or, i guess it opens the window to buying a T2R and slowly replacing parts with T2 bits as you develop your driving style, for new people. I like that option.

if you just look at the t1 and t2 side by side you will see the obvious differences.
1) the t2 has a much lower center of gravity
2) the t2's chasis is thinner
3)the chasis flex helps tune the car to the platform its runing
4) the t2 is much easier to work on
etc
the t2r will be cheaper to the t2 but its just for entry level drivers who want a xray

Hmmm... Maybe I need to give one a drive, then the improvements would probably hit me like a lightning bolt.
I've seen them go, and yeah, in stock i get my arse handed to me by those bokes, but the fact they also have new tuned CO27 motors, new batt packs with 1.2+V matched, it's a little hard to tell what's the car and what's the batts and motors...

Well, if you take out the ceramic bearings, titanium goodies and add a few grams and a little more friction you can chop off a lot of the price tag. The chasis could still be a fiberglass composite similar to the one of the accademy 4x4 buggy. This could leave you looking at a great parking lot racer for around $200 new. I honestly doubt that people with notice the a small weight differance, a small addition of friction in the drive line, and a slightly more flexible chasis on asphalt or a lower grade carpet.
