LRP Sphere/Neo-One 4 Star VS Novak GTB/Velociti 4.5

Now that Orion and GM are testing their systems, it seems like there is plenty of competition coming soon to the BL market!

you're right. However, i still think that Novak has the edge because they have more or less seen all the problems experienced in the market and they have the necessary countermeasures.
When it comes to product design and development, engineers that responded well to the problems encountered in the prototype stage and from the market will surely make the difference to future products

I haven't had time... (Exams are on at the moment so I can't spare much time for the track/car. )
But i'm planning on doing a little griding of the rear bulkhead plate like you suggested and giving the 110 a try. Actually, i think a 109/26 would be perfect.

I ran a Novak 5.5 a while ago and was impressed. It had about the same speed as a good 7 turn mod. I wasn't happy with too much punch and no engine brake but adjustments to profiles soon cured both those so that I eventually got it to run as smooth as a brushed motor.
I recently fitted a 4.5 and boy what a difference. This thing is so much quicker. INSANE. Like nothing I've ever driven before.
Now Malta is hot so if we're going to have problems of overheating then here's the place to have them. Well, geared at 8.2 I had no problems running 6 packs in fairly quick succession on Saturday and another 4 packs today.
I've played with brakes and throttle punch - increased brakes and reduced throttle punch and I'm doing some impressive times, for an old man.
Put it this way. I never got below 17 seconds a lap before. Today I was frequently in the 16s with a 16.7 best. I'd love to see the sort of times a good driver can do.
Problems? What are those. It's Novak brushless for me from now on.

My GTB was dead out of the package. The car never hit the track. I sent it to Novak and 2 weeks later it worked. I went with Novak because of the problems I had heard about LRP and look what I got.
But the esc does work. I do not like the programming between brushed and brushless on the GTB. Way to scary!!

I raced my Nosram 4 star combo on the weekend, up against 2 novak 4.5's
exactly the same speed, punch - power, we were nose to tail for 5 mins so I could easily judge the differences between the 2 systems.
the main difference being that the nosram / LRP didn't require a huge fan and air duct to prevent it thermaling. Ive heard lots of stories of the Novaks shutting down if the fan is blocked or broken by track debris, my nosram is barely luke warm after 5 mins, thats without a fan.

Castle creations is suposed to be releasing 540 size combos tomorrow. If they are near as effecient and as durable as their micro esc/motor combos they should be a great choice. They have one motor that is rated at 7700 kv. Aproximately 55k rpms in a good matched pack. The street price for their combos is $250 usd. In the rc world the street price is often nearly double the retail price. The may be a much much more afordable option if the power band is smooth off the line. Most 2 pole unsensored motors are a little too rough on the bottom end for off road.
