It depends what the cell's voltage is. At 1.2v it discharges at 36A, and at 0.9v around 27A.

About the DPD, it looks likes it's available now, only $135.

I don't hate trinity, but this product is real dumb to expect us to buy AA's when we always have power....

just a few options:
maybe they are greedy and want us to buy more AA's
or
they could not figure out how to make it powered by the power supply

i would gather this unit would be powered by the batteries being dishcarged. so the AA's would only come into play when the pack has been fully dishcarged, and even then, only when you press the button. as i would think it would go into "sleep" mode when not activated by user.

if this is the case then the AA's should last quite a LONG time.

any more specs on this unit? like adjustable cut off voltage? does it discharge loose cells? (would make a great matcher)

i wonder how many AA's it takes.. might be an easy hack to make it run off a power supply...

Asking if the unit can be powered by a power supply was a simple and harmess question. Way to not answer a customes question. We know it can be powered by AA's. No one bashed Trinity either. don't get so defensive. I guess I'll just wait for Matt to come home and play with his.

Hee guys,

Does anybody know what this means?

Internal or external charging modes.

It's quoted from the Trinity page.
Does it mean that during discharging your pack, you can charge the AA batteries? (internal) or, you can hook up a charger to the discharger to charge the AA's??

(damn, that got difficult)

Regards,
RA

That sounds like a fire hazard or blown product waiting to happen. It might be a typo, since it can discharge both internally (with the clamps) and using the external leads (for stick packs).

Ok, LAME question (sorry, just getting back into electric!!) Would this thing take the place of say the Novak smart tray, as far as getting the cells down to .9?

Yes it does the same thing as the Novak tray and more. The only the thing the new Novak tray has that this doesn't is the voltage hold feature.
Of course the DPD has a whole lot of things the Novak tray doesn't have, but costs more accordingly.

Ok, so you would still use bulbs, or another discharge method, then throw them on the tray?

You could if you want, but there is a 30A pulse discharge as well, just use that.

Why complain about the discharge being slow... there is usually little power left after a race anyway. Something like this is better for conditioning packs just before charging.

Default DPD

The DPD will be available in about 2 weeks.
A running change was made to bring the unit up to a 5 amp linear discharge.
The prototype's have tested VERY well and we wanted to make sure that any bugs were worked out.

Thanx
