Default 21.5 Motor Suggestions, please

USGT has died at my home track, so I am looking to switch over to 21.5 TC. We have a smallish track - about 80x35 - running around 9 second laps with the guys currently running 21.5. I just got a new Hobbywing 25.5 for my VTA car and it is really quick. I am leaning towards getting a Hobbywing for 21.5 as well, but wanted to see what others have had luck with. I have heard a lot of people mention R1. So, my short list is Hobbywing, Trinity X Factor, Motiv, Team Scream or R1. I look forward to hearing your suggestions and I have popcorn ready for watching the discussion! Thanks!

Any one of these motors is a good choice. Pick one and have fun.

Everyone in our 21.5TC class at apex runs the hobbywing G3R. Not sure if it's a class thing but I've heard skilled drivers that know and see the little things say they prefer the G3R motor. I think EA has some in his shop if you're interested. TeamEAMotorsports.com

No one has customer service like John at Team Scream. 21.5 “The One” is a VERY good choice👍😉

The fastest motor I've had on the track is the R1 Wurks 21.5T v21-S.

21.5 motors that have ran at my local track.
Hobbywing g3r
Trinity X-Factor
Motiv MC3
Motiv MC4
Fantom Icon Torque
R1 V21

You know what they all have in common? Time and gear them right and they are all fast, lol.

All of the above motors are good. I like the Team Powers Actinium V4. If you pick something recent it should be good. Exception is maclan motors which aren't supposed to be very good. If you can buy from your local shop>online shop if you have one to support local business.

From my Experience, the HW V3 G3R and the Trinity Cert plus are both rockets. I mean noticeably faster at the track. I have the 21.5T version of the G3R and the 25.5T version of the cert plus.

Crazy insane fast motors

What are you comparing to? I'm not saying that those are bad motor, just that they should not be noticeably better if you are comparing to recent modern motors geared properly.

I am not dyno tuning them to see, this is the placebo effect, but compared to the Icon, Surpass, Trackstar, M3 and R1, it's pretty noticeable.

Do you own all those motors or are you talking about racing against others that have them?

The icon is 1 generation old, surpass isn't specific enough, trakstar is not competitive, MC3 is 1 generation old, R1 has so many versions.

Although its not specific enough to really tell, all of those motors are or could be old generation which then obviously a G3R or XFactor would be better.

Team Powers Actinium V4 is a good motor to try, especially for stock. I would say it is equivalent or better than the X-Factor, especially in terms of value considering all the good X-Factors you have to pay extra for. G3R is used more in mod, not as much in stock at least around here in CA.

I'm interested in this topic as well.
Does anyone have access to more objective metrics that we can use to compare all the various brands?

For example, quantified peak power output, and the rpm and timing they occur at

Yeah I am not putting together an entire Power BI analysis, take it for what it is worth. Those are the ones I tried.

Too many people racing dyno sheets. Generation old means nothing. I have yet to see any motor in CA make me put down my MC3. The MC4 has been released yes and many in CA will be chasing it like they did the MC3😜. You can’t go wrong with all the motors already mentioned but remember that you must also drive the car😉
