Not super important to me, dipping my toes in the on road side of things. Going to run vta class, I’ll get it finished and keep an eye on motor temps

Picked one of these up to dip my toe back into the TC world. New to this alum. chassis thing. Does anyone take any measures to protect the alum. chassis from the droop screws? Maybe I'm off base here, but thinking these might start to dig in after some time?

You mean the droop screw dig into the alum.? I never protected that, it happens, also on the carbon chassis. As long as you check your droop (or down stops) regularly, the small dent in the alum. is not a problem.

I had this OCD of gluing x-acto blade chunks there for years... after a few occurences where they would fly off the car (typically after a hit...) and I would have the droop all f'ed up for the rest of the run, I finally understood this was a bad idea with the costs more than offsetting the benefits...

run the car as is, don't protect, check droop regularly.

And check also that your aluminium chassis is not bent...

Okay so just finish installing the x square lcg front and rear towers really nicely made very beautiful. A fix is required if using less shims than what is in the kit or even using the kit but if you are using more it is not as much of an issue here is the fix, you take the shock and you trim the top to compensate for the angle the X-ray cap top is designed for a swinging movement now that you have a vertical up and down movement you have to file away some of the top of the ball cup to compensate for this or it will bind as I was experiencing changing my spring rates. See the photos below for reference.

The way you test if you're having binding or not is take the spring off of the shock put it on the car move the suspension arm up and down while looking at the ball cup if you notice it start to apply pressure in the shock has trouble going up then you need to shave the top of your cup if you move the shock further out it has a similar effect but then you don't get the advantage of running the shocks laid over inside as much if you're running on a surface that needs that.

And where can you buy these? Is the height comparable to the low shock towers? Any advantages or do they just look cool?

The brand is X Square, I got mine off of RC Mart. They come with the ability to run the shocks at the stock height or at the -3mm option. I didn't find a night and day difference between the stock Xray towers/X Square but the car did feel flatter through the corners. I did manage to bend one of the shock mounts in a massive crash however, so they aren't indestructible.

Thanks Robs, good to know about the durability. I will keep it to the low profile RCmaker shock towers.
