All: When do you think there will be a new car from Yokomo and do you expect it to be an all new car or a new version of the MR4? What would you like to see on the new car?

STLNLST: Will mail you again.

BigDogRacing: The "A" main winner (3rd year in a row) ran the same tires (Sorex 28r), however, he used the Yokomo non-repulsive inserts. Second place, same tires but his insert was the Yokomo Medium (same as mine). 3rd place used Sorex 32 (I don't know the insert). 4th place (co-team member) ran Sorex 24 with Yokomo medium insert. I don't know about any of the other drivers in the "A" main.

For me, traction was not a problem until our Main was re-run because of an altercation on the drivers stand during the original Main. When we ran our Main, the sun had gone down and the track had cooled. I switched to Yokomo Firms w/medium inserts.

My limiting factor was my inability to maintain a consistent line, and nerves.

Josh,
I started with a 27t pinion but have to change as the tyre diameter decreases. New, they are 65mm and the ones on the car are about 61mm.
Every 2mm worn off works out to be a tooth roughly.

Kentech,
I don't see a single belt Yoke on the horizon. I think to do that means raising parts of the drivetrain and thats been one of the cars strong points(everything being so low).
I feel the car has evolved to a point where anything new could be a radical departure, further material refinement(like the belts) or subtle little tweaks.
Things like droop screws may need to be added as they tend to be popping up on more and more top level cars now. I think a drive system that can be locked or run one way as per the YR4M2 should be there too.

If the YMP mid engined MX4 acquits itself well at the Worlds next month, we may see a similar chassis layout trialled, perhaps a Yokomo flat graphite plate chassis kit?....Or a saddle pack chassis as an option??
Just a few thoughts.

Yeah, I agree w/ Simon...Car has been refined so much, that refining it more couold be dangerous.

RBLove - Our home track (and many of our surrounding midwest tracks) mostly run rubber tires. However there is the USTC race series coming up. I plan on starting to setup the SP for foams in the next week or so. With the World's chassis, I recall using TC3 springs because the stiffer GT-4 springs weren't out at the time that I ran foams last year. I used aproximately 35 lbs springs up front and 30lb springs in the back. I think they were AE White up Front and AE Purple in back. Definitely I will use the GT-4 Springs for the SP chassis. To be honest with you, I don't know the lbs rate of all of the GT-4 springs at this point. But from feeling them they should be sufficient. Also, you might want to think about bending your own swaybar. I used a 0.081" bar which is significantly stiffer than the stiffest bar that Yokomo has to offer for the car.

I do have 2 questions for you. What made you decide to goto the #2 pistons in the back? Did you try #3's with a softer or stiffer oil? Secondly, what did you find different about running the hinge pins in the upper holes in the back? With rubber tires, I've never had luck running the back hinge pins in the upper hole so I'm curious if you've done it both ways with foams.

My one concern though is with the stiffness of the SP Chassis. I would like to keep it as stiff as possible on foams. Perhaps a penguin graphite top plate may help. But I'll trying it with Yok stock parts first before I go fishing..hehe.

I only used the #3/#2 combo because a friend I race with recommended. He had ran the car in the past. The car just had to much chassis roll. As for the hinge pins; I thought that is what the manual pictured for me to do. Seemed to work fine. Except for the car being way to planted. I am just picked up all of the GT4 springs. Going to go with:

yellow Gt4 front
red GT4 rear

sway bar front and rear
stock camber
shocks out on the tower and the arm

shock oil and piston????? may stay with 3/2 and go to 100 weight.

I put the yellow/red on there and it is much stiffer. I found the TC3 springs to be to long. GT4's are perfect. You'll like them if you haven't used them yet.

Do you like the SP chassis better than the Pro? I've been kicking it around. Are you running the one ways? We do not touch them on carpet with foams. Never needed them or it hurt us more than helped. I could see the use with rubber though.

Are you from Minnesota? We will all be there in October for the USTC race.

Thanks,
Rob

bebob, if you click on control panel at the top of the screen, you can click on user options, then scroll down and hit change avatar, then load one. I made my animated one myself, usually you need to make them...

Kentech- I will check my email after I post this. The Yok has been upgrade to the point that I feel that any additional changes should be made into a different kit. You can only go back to the well so many times before it's dry. Every change/upgrade Yokomo has done to the MR4TC has been for the better, but if they are thinking of adding one more thing, I would carry that thought over to another chassis design. While we're on chassis...... alot of people on here may disagree with me on this but if Yokomo comes out with a new car they should try a different chassis material that can handle hotter temps without ill handling effects. Quite a few team driver's have had this problem so I know it's there. The main thing that I would like to see on the next generation Yokomo would be droop screws. Droop screws are a pretty good tuning option and can only help the racer in setting up his/her car.

STYLNST, yes, droop screws would be a great tuning aid. I believe it could be done on the currect yok by adding new arms, and in the rear, a certain bulkhead piece. BUT, I don't know about the front.

Hi guys. Good morning and greetings from Malta.

Firstly, my condolences to all our American friends, and to all democratic people throughout the World, after the barbaric happenings yesterday in New York and Washington. It is difficult to believe that nut cases of this calibre actually exist. Hopefully the United States will come down on them with all they deserve. I am sure they will. This is where I believe in the saying - An eye for an eye......etc.

Took the Yoke down yesterday and did a couple of 5 minute runs. he handling has been very good recently so I am concentrating on motors and gearing to try and get the best of the last minute. Times still taper off by about a second in that last minute, so if we can get that sorted we should be in much better shape. National championship season for R/C starts on the 30th September. But one week before that, we get back with the real racing scene with a hill climb in the National Hill Climb and Sprint championships. Funny thing is that I seem to be doing very little to the real race car yet I'm constantly fiddling with the Yoke. A lesson to be learnt there perhaps!

Regards,

Joe from sunny Malta.

Try 64 pitch gearing using a 100 tooth spur. Not sure if you are runing stock or mod or carpet or asphalt. I run on very technical carpet tracks with foams. 100/34 (stock) seems to work very well. I run the SMH batteries and do not fall off. My last lap is right on or within a tenth. Give it a shot if you haven't already done so.

Thanks,
Rob

Johnbull: Yeah these nut balls actually exist. What they don't understand is that when you harm the american economy as they have but shuting down wallstreet, you also hurt the world economy. Just take a look around the world a the stock markets. So, they are hurting alot more than just America. But, I think you are right, the government will come down hard.....on somebody.

Well on a lighter note. Another older Yokomo took the win last weekend at the short track. It was a MR4tcpro. More proof that cars don't have to be the newest to win.

RBLove - Firstly, I do like the SP chassis. Although it is different than the World's chassis regarding the required setup on it, it is a very good driving and very quick and speedy car with the SP chassis on it. I think its the first change that Yokomo has done to the MR4series car that greatly varied the setup that works on the car. Many of the other changes like going to the upper deck on the Pro, Changing to Graphite and milled upper deck, were all good changes but the nature of the car and its handling was somewhat similar. The SP induces new characteristics into the flex of the car and the center of gravity. So if you combine the well designed suspension geometry of the MR4 series with the lighter, more nimble chassis, you have potential for an all around faster car. I also feel that the cooling of the motor seems to work slightly better on this chassis as well. Maybe its just me but my motors come off slightly cooler now.

100Wt seems a little bit high. I was thinking that 70 to 80wt would be what I would use but I won't know that until I set it up. If you dampen too heavily, you may slow the initial compression of the suspension but then you have to deal with the fact that the suspension will stay load for a longer period of time. For the most part, You've got to match the springs that you use with the appropriate oil. Then use camber link, roll center, and swaybar settings to control chassis roll. But it seems to me that the SP will require less dampening than the Worlds chassis did as well as possibly lighter springs than I used on it as well. Guess we'll have to see.

About your gearing, you might wanna mention that on foams 100-34 can vary greatly depending upon your tire size (diameter). Just an afterthought.

Thanks for the reply. Good point on the gearing. That was with a 225 tire.

100 weight probably is a bit heavy. I was kind of leary on that myself. I think I need to go to the same piston front and rear as well. The GT4 springs fit perfectly. I was going to start with yellow front and red rear with sway bars front and rear. I think part of my problem was the rear hinge pin mount. From what I've read that makes the car extremely planted, which was my problem. I am going leave it in there and make the spring, piston, and oil change to see what happens.

Sounds like you are liking the SP chassis pretty well. I think I am going to have to get it.

Is your home track where the USTC leg is going to be in October? Let me know what set up you end up running with foams. I will be there for that race.

Thanks again,
Rob
