Lipo Help
I went and bought a 3 lipo batteries today and now feel this may have been a mistake after what I have read. The batteries came with no "lipo bag" and I have one fully charged and laying on the kitchen table while I sit at work. Not sure If I should put them outside in the garage (27 degrees ) or throw them away lol because I def dont want it to blow. Also I was told to charge the battery fully after use I now see this is not correct. When I bought the battery I bought a Radient Ascend charger but I don't see a "discharge feature" like recommended for storage. Any insight would be very appreciated.

Lipo safe bags while nice to have, are not entirely necessary because it's usually pretty easy to tell when a lipo is going bad. It'll either puff up or one of the cells won't balance out. And when that happens then it's time to dispose of them. So I doubt you need to throw your lipos away. Just take the time to understand the storage and safety aspect. Storing them you want a cool dry place around room temperature. Always balance charge them. No exceptions. |
You'll be fine bro... I charge mine either the night before or the morning when I'm heading to the track for the day.. when my day is winding down I also start putting the ones I'm using into storage mode while there.. I have had a day cut short and just put them on the charger under storage setting when I got home and let them do their thing.. they don't discharge as fast that way but end up the same...
|
How do you do the storage mode ? Mine have been fully charged for over 24 hours now... I should have educated myself first before buying

It's possible your charger does not discharge. You can run your car and check your voltage if you're wanting to store it at a particular charge level, like the 7.2v mentioned before. At the end of the day, you'll probably be okay either way. |

Yes lipo fires have been in the news thanks to hover board and cell phones. But overall they are used in so many thing that we pay no worry to. |
I know these topics have been posted and beat like a dead horse so I appreciate the replies. I will run the car and get the voltage to the 3.87 per cell as the charger manual states, sadley it does not offer a stoage mode. I am curious though as to why the battery is reading over 10 volts when its a 7.4 volt battery

this is after 20 minutes so unless i am having a brain fart as far as numbers go. Now I am at work but have the throttle trim on

Return that charger and get one that will do the job correctly...

Looks like your charger should balance.. did it come with the balance board? The manual almost sounds like it didn't but you have to have one yourself and when you plug one in it will give you the option to use that function...
Here's a link to the manual... press me |
Balance board? I connect both deans connectors from battery to charger then I plug the micro plug on the battery to the front of the charger. I feel like an idiot over charging batteries but i know when I first checked the volts it was over 10, both cells were 5.2 somthing
