I don't think the notion of a new YZ2 coming out soon would disway me from buying a CAL3 now. I have a used one that's two years old, and it's built like a tank. Thinking of getting another one so my son and I can race together.

Does anyone know what's going on as far as US parts and support? Seems many of the upgrade and replacement parts have not been in stock for quite some time. Looking to build a 2nd buggy for mod. I'm not gonna drive myself mad chasing down parts if their not gonna support the US market. Did they really pull the plug on US racers (sponsorship)?

Seems like an influx of second-hand YZ2's up for sale all of the sudden, too.

Yokomo is offering an RTR YZ-2? https://www.redrc.net/2021/08/yokomo...2wd-rtr-buggy/
Very weird, different, and interesting offering. The chassis looks like its offers exactly the same build as the kit which is very different from other RTR buggies which seem to cheap out on plastic shocks, plastic shock towers, dogbones etc. The electronics are incredibly basic though, no brushless system. Will be interesting to see the MSRP and street prices. https://www.redrc.net/wp-content/upl...moYZ2RTR-3.jpg |
Interesting to see that this Kit is the same 2017 edition (I assume the Maifield edition they went on to sell?), and not some “toned-down” version of the competition kit. I don’t closely follow Yokomo, so I assume that there have been some new updates since, but still, not a bad base to start with.
You also have to appreciate the attention to detail, going so far as to adjust everything so that it’s literally “RTR”. :D Oh, as far as the supply situation, Yokomo is not alone. Availability to ship things overseas as a whole is in very short supply, leading to container rates that are 8-10x the normal rates. Don’t be shocked to see prices go up when things DO come back in stock. Horizon brands have already been impacted by this. |
This is great news for those still using the car as parts support will continue to remain strong. I can only hope they release rtr versions of thr bd7...

It looks like a CAL3 with dirt tyres and an ESC/motor from 1995. Not seeing any old spec chassis parts there. If they put a better ESC and a 17.5 in it, would be perfect for beginners.

Does anyone run the cal3 with aluminium steering rack, aluminium bell cranks and also the aluminium bell crank brace and also have mad slop going on with the assembly? Did you need to shim anything to tighten this play up in the steering rack?
