if you imagine the crank like the gears on a bicycle, with the rear or wheel gear being in a fixed location. this would equal the clutch bell. ok and two gears up front one being big and one being small. i.e. short stroke being small and long stroke being large. this should give you an idea if you have ever ridden a geared bicycle, that a small ring up front will be easier to pedal equals more torque, and as you get up to speed you would want a bigger gear up front harder to pedal equals less torque but more top speed. so to answer the question a long stroke engine equals more rpm and a short stroke engine equals more torque. because the difference between long and short is the diameter of where the connecting rod attaches to the crank.

Just for info:
Long strok engine it is when piston diameter smaller then strok.
Shrot strok engine it is when piston diameter bigger then strok.
When piston diameter and strok has the same size-it calls square.
As power output-short strok engines has much more HP and rev much higher, but pick of torque is much later at higher RPM.
The rest of variables (exhaust timing, rod lenght-also known to be conrd ratio, etc) is just moving powerband with limits which are dictated by short/long strok parameters.
