That's impressive on the photos !
What do you mean by both spur and pinion are metal ?
Never use aluminium to aluminium ! It's friction coefficient is about 1.4 to 1.9!! Your car tyres will slide on the road way better than aluminium to aluminium.
A long time ago I made a valve in aluminium against steel on a flame gulping machine my god did it stick when the steel was coated with aluminium with wear. Like rubber on a sheet of paper !
