+1 all of the current kits are just as competitive just pick one with good parts support in your area. Mugen, associated, hot bodies, X-ray, tekno, serpent, caster, and I'm sure there are some I've missed but you can't go wrong with any of them they all have drawbacks and they all have strong suits.

Buy the one YOU like. Be it chassis design that draws you to it, a pro driver you like chassis sponsor, a cool advertisement, etc. Most of the kits are competitive enough they will not be the thing holding you back. IMHO in this day of internet coupled with extremely durable 1/8th cars, "parts supports" is significantly overrated.

Strictly basher focused, but, about the DEX408v2:
http://www.bigsquidrc.com/review-dur...gy/#more-49028
"Jumping: Best we’ve ever tested, I think that sums it up nicely."
"...a great handling buggy in the rough. We had a lot of fun searching out the gnarliest/bumpiest ground we could find then blasting through it pinned with the Durango."
"...pack after pack of hardcore bashing, our DEX408v2 remained alive."
"The buggy thrives on being driven hard, the harder you push it, the faster it goes, unlike other buggies that can feel like they are completely overwhelmed when big power is installed."
"The DEX408v2 is one of the best handling rc vehicles that money can buy. It is the best at jumping that we’ve ever tested, one of the best in the corners, and generally excels at ever aspect of handling."
And the kicker: "Also on a handling note, we have tons of time with an Associated RC8.2E and a Losi 8ight-E 2.0. The Durango made both of those buggies, especially the Associated, seem hard to drive and less stable."
